how the ♥♥♥♥ do you kill the kraken in chapter 1?

use the trap spell (yrden or something) on the ground where the tentacles drop to stun them. once they're stunned just attack the glowing(?) part of it. rinse and repeat.

Use quen (the shield) + yrden (the trap). Quen will let you take a hit without getting damaged. Try to keep quen active but watch you don't get hit while activating it. Yrden is used to trap the tentacle. There's also potions you can take to make the fight a bit easier (swallow, mongoose, tawny owl ?). The only tentacles that are trappable are the two on the left and the two on the right. The ones in the middle are just there to hit you.You can't do anything with them. Place yrden on the ground and wait till a tentacle with a glowing bulb on it raises and starts to fall. Then roll or run sideways. When the tentacle gets stuck run up to the glowing bulb and hack away at it. After you cut off three glowing tentacles head towards the last tentacle. There's some on screen mouse clicks to watch for when you get nearer to it. Press the mouse buttons/keyboard keys as they appear. After the bridge piece falls run up the bridge piece and there will be a cutscene.

If all else fails theres mods. I use the rune mod and adjust the stats on the runes with notepad. I had to do this to get by letho (?). I just took out all his health with one hit. For the kraken you could probably raise the vitality on a rune to like 2500 or something and wait behind the bridge where you don't take damage until the health bar fills up. The kraken isn't that bad once you use quen and get the hang of things.

You need to cut off three of its tentacles either by Yrden or by acquiring the Kayran Trap. After which, you have to complete a quick time event that if you're successful with (which you should be because it is fairly easy) will leave the Kayran trapped under the ruins. Go to the left most part of the field, up the broken pillar then finish off the boss.

When the arm starts to fall it will hit the point where you were standing when it started to fall. So stand in line with the yrden and watch the arms.

You just gotta juke like 24/7... thats all .. juke and use that spell to trap him... Once he is trapped attack that leg. Trust me it took me like 45 tries...

Easiest way to do it:
1) Quen (immediately)
2) go most left or right
3) place trap and stand still
4) stand on trap, get hit, tentacle is now trapped
5) Quen first or chop off tentacle first, pref. Quen first as he enrages after a dismemberment (makes sense)
6) Rinse and repeat
If you get hit a lot, keep running left and right he won't be able to get a proper lock on you
Took me 30 or so tries, but this method worked eventually.

Oh after you cut the tenticles be sure to dodge it's rocks that it hurls at you and run up to the ramp and finish it up. ^_^
