It might hurt, but the dark sets get more and more expensive. Crafting the entire thing costs like 5k gold, and thats excluding mats. I was like "♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥" and just got the mod. I can now get back to playing the damn game :P.
Yeah, that crap is obnoxious. Fortunately, you don't have to use the dark set weapons. As long as you craft the entire set, equip it, then swap out the swords, you won't be cursed and be able to actually see.
Alternatively, you can use a mod to remove the effects.

That is the old version, used if you already have a mod that would cause conflics (modifies base_scripts.dzip). Its outdated, so it will completely remove the vitality sap. Only use if you'll have a mod conflict otherwise.

Thats the newer one, and will disable the effects at no cost. If you're running no mods at all, I'd highly recommend this.
Unfortunately, all dark sets have that irritating dark effect. You're free to use other swords, but if you really want to use dark weapons without being blinded, just use the second mod I linked. All you have to do is drop 'base_scripts.dzip' in your programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/thewitcher2/CookedPC, and you're done. Make a back-up if you so desire by renaming the original base_scripts.dzip. Very simple to do.
Alright, good luck! And I would save up for the Act III set. If you thought the Act I set was expensive, just wait for the Act II set.
You welcome! Enjoy your game!
