So I want to help the succubus in this by proving the elf guilty in front of Iorveth but it says I need a scrap of metal from the catacombs. I don't remember being able to search the body and when I went back again I couldn't search it either. So... am I stuck having to kill the succubus?

IIRC you need Surgical tools in your inventory to get that item in the corpse.
