The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Should I play the first Witcher before this the 2nd.? And if so...
why? Does the story from the 1st. Witcher cross over to the 2nd in any way? Or does the Witcher 2 catch you up as to what happen in the first or the like?

Thanks big-time in advance and happy gaming!

Think of TW1 as an introduction to the Witchers' world. You won't miss a lot if you didn't play TW1 - just a few references here and there. But I still suggest that you play the 1st one regardless so you can experience the evolution of the games.

you should. you might not like the combat but it can be very fun. The second witcher does pick up after the first game but it does not catch you up on what you should know or what you would know if did not play the first one.

If nothing else, you should play The Witcher 1 because it's a great game with an epic story. It's not required to play the 2nd one, but it's very helpful to understand the relationship between 2 of the game's main characters Geralt and Trish. It also builds a lot of the back story of Geralt and the process of becoming a Witcher.

I'd like to add that you are asked for a Witcher 1 save game of your choice, if you have one, when you start playing Witcher 2. Items you had at the end of Witcher 1 carry over to Witcher 2 (not all of them, but the most epic loot does). Moreover, thanks to your savegame import, dialogues in the game take into account choices you made in Witcher 1, like if you spared someone or if you killed someone, or, on some level, what side you took, who's a friend and who's not. I also experienced NPCs referring to some characters whose where my friends in W1, and even if they are not physically present in W2 I got messages from them and even some gift like "loot" to help me out. It also takes into account some of the relationships you might have experienced in W1 or why these people that were important in W1 are not present in W2.

W2 is chapter 2 of a trilogy, after all. More importantly, the reasons behind Geralt's loss of memory at the beginning of W1 (not a spoiler, the game starts exactly on that topic!) are an important part of the character evolution that will carry over even to Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. And I made a specific choice in W1 that I am sure is going to be covered in W3! And thanks to my W1 save game Geralt referred to it in W2 as well.

All in all, it's not absolutely necessary to play W1 to enjoy W2 but if you do play it you are going to have a fully immersive and customized experience into the Witcher's world so far. The extra starting loot is also a plus that might help!

It's a great game. Enjoy!

Yes he has amnesisa but not that does block his memories of events from the first game.

Not imo. The game is really dated. I tried playing through and just couldn't. Just watch the story for W1 on youtube.

it is dated but it still is a good game with a good story. But it can be a little rough and takes a while to get into the combat
