The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Some recommended settings for PC users:
So, I've been trying to enjoy this game for years, but I could never get this game to actually work. The game itself would run great, but I always had problems in the menus where the mouse would lag. Simply put - it drove me completely bonkers.

So, even if this is a little late coming, I've found some settings that still make the game look great and run really well.

I haven't adjusted any settings in the User.ini except:

Mouse Acceleration = 0
Mouse Y Sensitivity = 0
Mouse X Sensitivity = 0

Note, you have to have adjustable DPI settings on your mouse for this to work. However, frankly, I don't even think this is necessary, because the menu lag was still present. I would set Mouse Acceleration to Zero anyway. I swear I don't understand why developers continue to put that crap in games. It always causes problems.

The rest is all done in the Game Options as follows:

Screen Resolution: 1920x1080

Fullscreen: Enabled

Aspect Ratio: 16:9

Texture Downscaling: None (This will really eat your performance and isn't necessary for standard gaming. This is really there for people who have very high-end PC's.)

Texture Memory Size: Very Large

Shadow Quality: Ultra (Dropping this down even one level will also free up a lot of performance.)

Number of Shadowed Lights: Ultra

LOD Distance: Far

Bloom: Enabled

Light Shafts: Enabled

Anti-Aliasing: Disabled (I could probably Enable this, but it's not a big deal to me. Once you get into the HD resolutions, Anti-Aliasing really doesn't have that much effect unless you're really looking at a static scene for a long time. When you're moving around and actually playing the game - you simply don't notice the "jagged lines" because you're too busy playing the game.)

Blur Effects: Enabled

Depth of Field - Gameplay: Enabled

Vignette: Enabled

Wet Surfaces Rain Effect: Enabled

SSAO: Enabled (You could also turn this off for some better performance, but unlike Anti-Aliasing, you will see a difference with this turned off.)

Motion Blur: Enabled

Cinematic Depth of Field: Disabled (This is what causes mouse lag in menus. I've read forum after forum, and tech support after tech support, and no one mentions just turning this stupid option off. They tell you to do everything else under the sun to fix the problem, but they don't tell you to do this. If you're having mouse lag in the Meditation menu especially, this is what is causing it. I don't know if it's a driver/graphics card issue or what, but just turn this off. You might lose some minor game play prettyness that you'll barely notice, but for me at least, it beats the hell out of dealing with the mouse lag. That mouse lag in the meditation menu really did always make me lose interest in this game. This game requires you to be immersed and absorbed in it at all times while playing, and nothing breaks that faster than some technical problems. It is also important to note that lowering any other setting in the game will not remove the mouse lag. Only this one will.)

Depth of Field - Cutscenes: Enabled

Dangling Objects Limit: Disabled

Ubersampling: Disabled (This will really eat your performance. Like downscaling, this is really meant for high end PC enthusiasts. There's no shame in not having a rig like that. Your awesome PC doesn't have to define you. So don't take it personally.)

Vertical Sync: Disabled (This should always be the first thing to turn off in a game that is having frame rate issues. Basically, what this does is limit the FPS of the game to whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is. It's basically an artificial frame limitor for games that aren't built to have a frame limitor.)

Decals: High Spec

I hope this helps some of you who have been suffering with the mouse lag all these years like I have. The best thing is, the game still looks and runs really great, really great. Now, for me at least, all the headache is gone.

Nice post, though the above may only apply with people with simiar specs to your own (which you do not list).

For instance I never had the issue with this machine or my old one. (though on my last machine I did run the game at 1680x1050).

Thanks for posting so now people with simiar specs who are having the same issue, should be able to resolve it. :)

I hate motion blur. Always having it turned off. Not that I really need to care about settings in w2 anymore and can crank everything up to max. Very good guide to those who cant though
