The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

The Witcher 2 on Mac OS?
So on Steam, it says that The Witcher 2 is also playable on Mac OS. But I've heard many things that it doesn't actually work properly on the Mac side. Can any Mac users confirm this? Has the Mac port been worked on/fixed at all?

Not being able to run this on the Mac side is fine for me since I have Windows bootcamp (but bootcamp disk storage is running low so would be good if I can run this awesome game on the Mac side)

Thanks in advance!

The mac version needs much higher specs than the pc version, also Intel gpu's on the mac are not supported as the drivers are dreadful and you will get loads of issues. this is the only realy issue.

Other than that, as long as your specs are high enough I believe it runs well, there are quite a few posts regarding the mac version if you look through them :)

Thanks for clearing that up. Weird that the Mac version needs higher specs but guess it just wasn't ported properly. (And yea, just saw that there's a number of discussion on this, darn lol)

On another note, I don't think I have high enough specs for this game since I'm just on the Macbook pro 2014. I guess I'll hope for the best playing via Windows Bootcamp!

nothing to do with "not ported properly" and everything to do with:
1) Mac OS X's GPU drivers are not as high performance as Windows and
2) Mac machines typically use Mobile GPU's without advertising this fact

Well that explains a lot, not being a mac person I never knew they did this, also explains why many other games seem to require much more powerful macs. :)

You may have no issues running it at all, it depends on which model of macbook pro you have(there are a number of different spec pro's). You really need to see what the specs are.

That's good to know. Proves how little I know about computers. Thanks for the info.

Well here are my specs in case you're interested:

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB (this is probably my main concern, I haven't tried running any 'content'/graphics-heavy games on the Mac side but will still give it a go when I purchase the game)

Thanks for your input.

Ah, that is a shame, I would not buy it for the mac, as you have the Intel iris chipset, its not going to run properly, as the intel graphic chipsets are not supported, there is another recent mac thread where someone tried it on the iris, they said it was unplayable, (performance, texture issues, artifacts etc)

Essenitally the person who tried it on irus said "It ran barely, the graphics were all glitched so I had to uninstall it."

You may need to use bootcamp afterall. Just be prepared, the iris chipset is not exactly fast. So you are still most likely going to have to keep the resolution and detail level down.

There is more detail on the intel issue here :-http://steamcommunity.com/app/20920/discussions/0/610573009252501198/
