How the ♥♥♥♥ do I kill letho?! (first encounter)
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ takes no damage. And yea yea yea I know what I'm supposed to do, throw down yrden when hes shielded, and then use aard to stun him and hit him. Problem is, I do remotely NO damage to him. After like 30 hits, his health is like 3 pixels lower. Im level 10, too. Also its ♥♥♥♥ing impossible for me to dodge his aard, after I hit him, I ♥♥♥♥ing spam A (using controller) and he doesn't ♥♥♥♥ing roll in time. I'm done, and this ♥♥♥♥ing sucks because it can't do anything else because of this stupid ♥♥♥♥ing boss. I really want to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play this game, but i can't progress!

First, did you apply any mods? Because some are known to mess with such things (either killing enemies in one hit or not doing damage at all).

Second, do you have a decent sword with decent upgrades (and definitely not using the silver sword by mistake)? The Jagged Blade or Superb Cutlass are best, but a Robust Cutlass it also fine. Make sure you hit him with Strong attacks. Light attacks do almost no damage to him. Apply either a whetstone or Hanged Man's Venom to the sword and drink Rook and Swallow potions before the battle.

Third, there are different ways to deal with Letho, depending on skill and preferences. Yrden is definitely a possibility and so is Aard, but there's really no need to use both at once. I usually don't bother with Yrden in this particular fight - hit with Aard, do two strong attack and roll away (it's incredible useful to have an upgrade into Feet Work in the swordsmanship tree if you don't have it yet).

You likely won't be able to dodge his Aard if you're too close to him - this is why you roll away after landing 2 hits. If you're away from him, dodging his Aard is no different than dodging all his other ranged attacks (Igni, bombs).

Or, you know, if all else fails, just keep your distance and throw 50 Grapeshot bombs at him.

Keep Quen up at all times, when he has his Quen up just don't even bother attacking him, then when his Quen runs out, use Yrden which should get you around 3 hits on him, go for his back and use strong swings. Repeat this technique until you win.

collect traps in woods.... around 30, and use them plus bombs, i dont know if they fixed this bug but if not, traps behave like walls against lethos range attaks.

+if you want to make realy bad ass witcher you need alchemy tree anyway, it will give you traps and bombs 200% damage.... no sword will compare to this..

My sword is the default sword, and its impossible for me to drink potions before the battle. I also have no mods installed, and Im only doing heavy attacks. Its not like I can go back either, so I'm pretty much ♥♥♥♥♥♥, I can't upgrade or level up, and I didn't in the first place because I had no idea that there would be 2 boss fights in a row.

Can't collect traps because I'm locked into the boss battle.

load safe before fight, there is no other option
adnoam Feb 11, 2015 @ 4:00pm
You can always load the save from before the battle.
(I'm not sure what you mean by two boss fights in a row. There was the kayran fight and a while after that Letho. If you refer to the fight with the Arachas that's very far from being a boss fight in any way. Just a strong monster, one of many you'll encounter.)

To drink potions before fighting Letho, tell Iorveth you're not ready to go directly to Letho but that you'll meet him there. This will give you the chance to loot the area where you met Iorveth (you'll find the best silver sword in chapter one there), and you can walk over to the waterfall, meditate, drink potions and only then approach Iorveth and Letho.

You can apply oils/whetstone even during a fight. A +20% to damage is pretty helpful.

If you only have the basic sword from the very beginning then I'm afraid it won't do much damage to Letho. You need to upgrade, craft or buy a better one (as you should be doing throughout the game to both your swords and to your armor whenever you find an opportunity). At a bare minimum, you can usually simply find a Dwarven Axe in Einar Gausel house (the dwarf directly across from the smith). It's not amazing, but still better than the starting sword.

Load a save to before the fight, and then take your time doing some side quests until you find/craft/buy a better weapon. It will come in handy in more than just this particular boss fight.

(or, as I said, try bombs).

If all else fails, and you can't won't go back a few minutes of game play to get better weapons and prepare, and if you're playing on Normal difficulty or above, then you can lower the difficulty level in the game (even during the game) to Easy, and bring it back up after the fight.

So I loaded an earlier save, right before I fight that bug, and well, there's a problem

The entire town is empty, I don't know why, but there is no one there other than the guards, so I can't really upgrade or buy anything.

I've had this happen once or twice. Just exiting the game and reloading fixed it for me. If that doesn't work then theres always the cutlas in the downed tree just past the troll (assuming you havent grabbed it already) that should be sufficient.

As for the topic, as adnoam said use Aard. Cast it to prevent Letho casting Quen, follow up with 2 heavy attacks roll away, repeat. He should be down in no time.

I've never encountered this before fighting Letho (after fighting him things in town do change, so it does make sense).

I'd try to either load an earlier save, or beat the Arachas and tell Iorveth you'll meet him later - then go back to town.
