In the game there was no indication of how, but it did say add a mutagen to a path. Didn't say why, what for, or how. Anyway I found that pressing 'enter' on an upgrade that had a little hole in it, worked.
Very unintuitive.
The whole tutorial was really tricky to follow. I had to play it a second time, because I quit in frustration the first time, at the levelling up. I still find all the things you have to do, to be too tricky. I think it's a very comlicated game to operate.
I was perplexed by the meditate and choose potions before battle. I fugured drink a potion in battle. Doesn't work. Got hammered, and the game recommended I play on easy.
I think I am going to hate it. However they say W2 and W3 are similar. I may weel have done myself a favour. Otherwise I could have spent £30 on W3, found it complicated and been just a little angry. Either way I think W2 will tell me some of how W3 is.
Skip the tutorial. It's not needed.
The prologue of the game itself acts as a tutorial. If you pay attention to the on screen explanations you should be fine. It won't handhold you and show you how to use all the game mechanics one by one, but you can figure the more complex of those as you go along.
(The tutorial was added in a late patch - it wasn't there originally).
If you already have the game, why not try this (skipping the tutorial) before quitting for good?
I have the (Steam) manual and I think I'll have a look at that. Something I was puzzling over last was that Q is for using sign. Not sure about all those. I thought 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were those, followed by R.
I do think the tutorial does too much too fast. It would be better introducing stuff gradually over a first chapter. I ended up doing the tutorial twice, and I still don't get it all.
I think the combat in the opening of the game is probably easiest, but I find it's going quite well.
Surprising just how much graphics power it needs to run everything maxed out. I imagine W3 needs a huge graphics card set up.
(I had also bought The Witcher. I actually bought that ages ago but was busy with Skyrim. However I didn't like the combat in that.)
Pressing CTRL brings up the quick menu where you can select the active sign/item (and also to meditate).
Shortcut keys are used to quickly cast the sign of your choice, inc which case you don't need to use Q. It's just the Q is usually very easy to press quickly in combat. You can rebind these shortcut keys if you prefer a different layout (I use 1-5 for the signs, as it's more accessible in combat).
Well.. how the hell do you use a mutagen to mutate a skill?
Never mind. Screw the dumb tutorial.
Thanks for pointing that out.
In case anyone else is wondering, the talent is "fortitude" (upper right corner of the tree) and pressing enter opens the place where the mutagen can be applied.
Maybe that clarifies it for anyone else looking at it.
