The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Mac: Import W1 saves to W2
Just beat the Witcher 1 on my Mac and launched the Witcher 2 - click 'new game' but the game does not detect any Witcher 1 save files. I go look it up: I have the correct save file (000348 - Order of the Flaming Rose-093.TheWitcherSave) and if Witcher 2 isn't detecting it, people online say all I need do is copy that save file into the Witcher 2 gamesaves folder. Easy. I do that, launch the game. Witcher 2 plays the opening cinematic (of the king being assassinated on the boat) and then crashes to desktop, never reaching the menu.

Anyone got a solution?

Save import unavailable - 64 bit Mac
Hi all,

After the series became playable with 64 bit Macs that use Intel, I decided to have a go through the entire series. I played through Witcher 1 fine - and after installing Witcher 2, at first the game couldn't find my saves. I followed some sage advice I found from this forum, and copied my last save (cloister, after coming back from the ice lands) into the save game folder for Witcher 2.

I'm guessing that made the game find the save, kind of, since now it CTD's after the opening video of a king being assassinated on a ship before the start menu. I tried removing the Witcher 1 savegame file, and I get to the start menu normally - so the issue seems to be with the Witcher 1 save being in the savegame folder.

Any advice?

It's not clear what issue do you have in you post.
Can you load previous saved W2 game files? Or are they now disappeared from the game loading screen?
Also do you have STEAM save to the cloud on or off?

Edit: When starting a new game of The Witcher 2 you can import a saved game from The Witcher 1 by selecting "New Game" then "Import Witcher 1 Save" from the main menu. In order to be used, the saved game files should be in their original location.

My issue, in a nutshell, is this: "it CTD's after the opening video of a king being assassinated on a ship before the start menu". This after trying to get it to recognise W1 saves.

I haven't played W2 before, so I wouldn't know about previous saves. I tried to start a completely new game, and that worked out fine. Steam save to cloud is on - didn't occur to me it might need to be off.

At first, when I started a new game of W2, my old W1 saves (very end of the game) didn't appear at all - no 'import witcher 1 save' given, despite the fact that the saves were in their original W1 filestructure. I read some advice in this forum and copied my W1 saves to the W2 save folder - which seems to work in some cases. However, in my case it caused the game to CTD before even getting to the game start menu (immediately after the assassination video/cutscene).

My best guess is that on many Macs, W2 doesn't recognise W1 filestructure - which would require copying the save files to W2. This is all fine. However, it seems that whatever they did to allow the game to be played with 64-bit intel (such as mine) caused the game to crash whenever it sees a W1 savefile in W2 savefolder. I'm no game developer, so could be wrong.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

It shouldn't be the case of the save file to crash on a 64bit Intel. At least I never had that problem. Also there's a well known issue of saving the file on STEAM cloud of not appearing on the load screen. Common suggestion is to turn off STEAM cloud save.

See this thread if it's of any help for W1 import save files:

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work - the files were where they supposed to be from my earlier attempts to fix this. Turning of cloud saving didn't do anything.

The situation still is - W1 save files in the W2 save folder --> CTD before game start screen. No W1 save files in the W2 save folder --> Game start screen comes up, but with no option to import saves.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you place only one latest W1 save file in the W2 folder?
Does it sti crash?

Sadly, yes. That's what I've been doing in fact - just putting in one save file. I've also tried alternating it between the second and third latest save files, same result.

I'm having this same issue, playing on Mac. I have tried everything, leaving only the latest file saved at the Order of the Flaming Rose with Dandelion, both in its original folder of The Witcher/saves, and copying it into Witcher 2/gamesaves, but then the game crashes after the intro. I've tried moving the whole saves files, and putting it at different locations. I've tried with different save files, from the Ice Plains, and creating new ones. I played in English, so the language should not be an issue. It just seems like The Witcher 2 will crash after intro whenever there is a safefile from Witcher 1, but if you remove it then you can't import Witcher 1 files... which I spent a lot of time playing precisely to be able to continue with 2 and 3. I'm very disheartened. There doesn't seem to be a solution online.
Please someone help!

Oh, and turning cloud on and off doesn't do anything as well.

Should the w1 saves not be in a witcher 1 save folder not the 2nd save folder?
K.U.B.A.S Feb 17, 2023 @ 10:02pm
reinstall game disable save slouds. Delete data save in the folder
Steam-folder>/userdata/<user-id>/20920/remote/

I've tried it both ways, it doesn't read the file when they are on the Witcher 1 folder, and the game crashes ater intro when they are in the Witcher 2 gamesave folder :(
