* if delete manually in remote-directory => steam back savegame

Keep Steam cloud disabled in properties AND ingame. Those savegames are 1/2 MB files you upload to Steam cloud with limited storage. It's like uploading 4/8 screenshots each time you press the save button. Store it locally and use an SSD to prevent savegame crashing. I have 252 savegames stored with a total size of 517 MB, and none of those are stored in cloud. All from mydocs\the witcher 2\ , read from a SSD.
If you don't own a SSD, stick to OP's advice.
Its caused by the witcher 2 filling up your steam cloud storage with saved games. Steam only lets you have 100mb for each game and the witcher 2 fills that up pretty quickly. The devs know all about it.
I want use steam cloud and I use HDD and now RamDisk => no change.
Steam Cloud sync savegame when launch or left (&crash) games not in game play
It figures the first time I hit the guy with the ballista in the beginning on the first try, I was on disc copy, in other words, no achievement. Hide and watch, Steam version gets fixed and I'll never be able to do it again, or for some other painfully long amount of time! :)
Disable cloud sync and read this http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2470784
The game crash to desktop without any error messages.Reason for that is because you have too many saves , and the game struggles with this. You'll have to delete the old ones or at least backup them in another folder.Depending on whether the steam cloud is enabled or disabled in the game, save location will be the following:
With enabled cloud: /Steam/userdata/id/20920/remote .However, saves can be removed straight from the folder only if cloud saving is deactivated.
With disabled cloud: C:/User/My Documents/Witcher 2/gamesaves
Works? Then you can restart Steam if you want - after shutting down the game.
