Steam version - which version it is ? 3.4 ?

It's probably 3.4. If you have the Content Manager, then it's fully updated. You still can't download the redkit however, unless you register on GOG and download from there.

(very old post, but putting it here since I did not find a clear answer regarding versions until I found how to deal with all that myself. It might help someone.

Here is the situation with patch and versions:
- Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition on steam is at version 3.2 when you install the game.
- You then need to find + download and install patch 3.3 from internet.
- Once 3.3 is installed, run the launcher of the game through steam, which will ask you if you want to install 3.4. Accept and it will download + install 3.4.
- Enjoy.

Man I was running crazy because for me the game won't start. I tried the others solution (Compatibility mode, admin mode) but only yours instructions did the trick for me. Thank you so much !

Have just been looking thru before playing this game and found your post on patch and yes it works but had problem downloading 3.3 patch from cdprojectred so got it from this site if it helps anyone

For anybody trying this, mind you, achievements will no longer trigger. Steam does not recognize the exe anymore. It start game launcher, but when game itself is launched, it considers it closed and with newer version, it autosaves much less often, so mind you.

So they added Achievements to GOG and broke them on Steam? Lol, oh CDPR...

Frankly, they did add them to GOG but they don't work there either... So, I'm guessing if you can somehow bypass the launcher, there is a chance GOG and Steam versions would magically start to recognize them.

They work on GOG just fine now, what are you on about? Have you updated the game to the latest version? If you have and it doesn't work, I suggest you remove any mods you are using.

I'm about half way done and never had to skip the launcher.
