How does resurrection work in this game series? *spoiler alert*

I didn't play Witcher 1, nor did I read any of the books. But from what I can gather from reading the wikipedia summary, Geralt and Yennefer both died previously and was resurrected by Ciri.

So um...how exactly does that work? Can anybody be resurrected in this game universe? I mean...if resurrection is possible via magic, why not resurrect the killed kings?

Or is resurrection only possible for witchers and sorceress? What about other non-humans?

Ciri is Geralt and Yennefer's adopted daughter and she is basically the most powerful person in the entire Witcher universe. The books don't actually explain how they're resurrected, but Ciri is pretty special so I guess she could make it happen. The books are quite good and I recommend you read them if you're interested.
