Have you defeated it yet?
What difficulty are you playing?
I have a gamesave of it on normal mode if you end up needing it.
I always kill the side nearest bridge first, so i can run and duck behind the concrete there to recover IF i have to. And NEVER run along the back wall where you collected the green slime...or you get stuck and take at least one hit before you can get free. Run+roll works for me in going from one side to the other.
But if ya need the savefile let me know......i also have a save (normal) mode at the end of Chapter 1 where ive looted the diagram for Beann'shie, stated as the best steel weapon in game.

It was pretty annoying. Make it beat the ground, make it miss, then place an Yrden and make it smash it, smash its tentacles. You cant to all the way to the side, then you get bitchslapped. When you get to the quicktime event and have passed it, run up the now destroyed bridge asap before you get oneshot by a rock. Done

coastie, coastie. Sigh. Since you never tire of spouting the same nonsense about the Kayran boss fight, I guess I have to assume you don't believe us. Then we have to resort to door-to-door surveys in order to generate a broader opinion.

Door-to-door inquiries in the causa coastie65

Geralt, what do you think about coastie65?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcvf8oHiaMA

coastie65 persistently complains about the Kayran bossfight. You are an expert. What do you think about that?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL60Ofw1KtA

Let‘s ask the tight-lipped druid. coastie65 spreads infamous lies like "Those that have gotten past this thing have used a cheat."

Can I take a message for him?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjVEnscxSPo

Sry, after all I’m pretty sure that it was too fast for him, I think. Pls, be explicit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtECT7enSVo

I see, won‘t fail to tell thim. I look forward to the ideas of his conspecifics …

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de7XAc6ZFsE

WOW! They look worried! Ciri, any relevant hints for coastie65?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gFPjMTj-Xc

Ostrich, you are an unbiased observer. coastie65 stubbornly refuses to see his mistakes, shuts himself off from the (admittedly dark) reality, only churns out empty phrases and refuses to accept that every one of his posts is a declaration of bankruptcy. Do you think he will recover again?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcinulhmogA

Bleak prospects, ostrich, bleak prospects.

I would like to thank all interviewees for their enlightening statements and clear words/gestures.

A wide range of opinions! One would wish that coastie possessed even a shred of the wisdom that these competent conversationalists radiate…

Paying attention is the name of the game, you obviously can't pay attention or you would have heard the part where it is explained the Kayran is blocking the passage up the River and the bridge is out because of the Troll situation as well as the Kayran further up river. That is Why you can't move on without killing the Kayran. Is that good enough for you? :lethosdream: You can't move on in the Witcher without killing the Beast :essenceofwater:

I have been playing this thing since it was released and now the enhanced version. I Play it until there is little nothing left to kill in the forest of or in that area by the bandit camp. I will stay with it until there is nothing to do to the point it gets boring then uninstall it. Sometime down the road I will decide to revisit it and reinstall it. This last time, I decided to mess with the Kayran and was quickly reminded it was instant or near instant death if you messed with that thing. I hadn't used the trap in the past, but did this time. Did good with the one tentacle, but then the thing went berserk and you needed to find that safe spot. To try and go after it then was GAME OVER. I have Taken Silie to the Bridge and then gone back to town and talk to folks and try and trigger some movement in the game. The only thing that got triggered were some Prostitutes. At least in TW3 you get 2 XP for that. Nothing here that I could see. Anyway, I got bored as there was nothing left to do to get any XP so decided to move on to something else. It is fun going through the lead up and then getting to Flotsam and taking care of things, then it stalls out and gets boring. I did find a thing where you could get unlimited Vitality, but don't really trust those downloads. I think you could also get Orens too. Personally, I like looting and building my fortune, although I get anxious when I see some really good thing and I don't have the orens to get it, like that Armor in TW1 and the silver sword in 2 (I carried the Aerondight over from TW1 plus some good steel) TW1 & TW3 I have played all the way through (Incudes the DLCs in 3) at least 5 times. In 3, if you get in over your head, there will be a red skull to let you know that you are over your head, although I have managed to beat some. I will try them once. As I said, I decided to mess with the Kayran this time, but usually, I will get to Flotsam and do all there is to do and then Game Over until next time. The thing that gets me is that the Kayran is on the Job Board. Those things are supposed to be side quests for XP and Coin and maybe some looted goodies. Something you can do or not. Anyway, It was good, I got to level 10 and I picked up some really good stuff, particularly a nice steel sword (still using the Aerondight). One thing I found out, as for Difficulty, there is NO easy of Normal for that Kayran, it is at the Maximum difficulty by default and a lot more have quit at that point than have actually moved on from what I am seeing on the various boards. Had you been able to get 3 traps, then that may have worked better for folks. I had a guide at one point and read it through to the end, so I know the story and what takes place. I gave that to my Nephew who was playing it. It is a decent game as far as it goes.

I am really not good at the mechanics. I am in my 60s and my arthritis has progressed enough that I have a couple of nodes. Yeah, there are some of us out there that enjoy it even though we get in over our heads every now and then. I do have a few games I am truly stuck in, but as long as I get far enough to enjoy it, that's life.

I am sort of stuck here, but chipping at it systematically. A couple of bob and weave moves starting and staying somewhat left, come back toward center but don't get poisoned, throw down Yrden and hack off the first tentacle. I have done that a few times, but not every time yet. After the intermingled cut scene (pun intended), I am disoriented and trying to figure out the right stick moves to get back to a similar orientation like it started with.

The way I muddle through hard parts of games is trying it myself a few times and pretty quickly resort to watching a play through to get the general idea. In this case, it is trapping and cutting tentacles. I got one a few times. I am going to continue always starting with that until I get it down well enough that it will be more like I am restarting with one down.
Next, I will figure out the stick moves to get reoriented where I am running sideways in the foreground with the right camera angle and move on to the next tentacle.

One of the biggest sources of frustration for me is when I try to almost randomly bash, slash and dash my way through hard parts of games. This does work with a lot of the monsters along the paths, but planned execution to repeat what works and trying to extend it is what gets me through boss fights. that doesn't mean exactly the same; I have somehow ended up on different sides of the first tentacle when hacking it off.

All that said, I am close to backing off to the save before I stalked to Sile and doing some side quests. I may even play a little more W3, which I started largely to make sure my marginal PC would handle it. I would have refunded inside the 2 weeks with under 2 hours of gameplay if it didn't. It has some slow spots, but playable. W2 is fine, though I do dial back graphics a bit on both. I need to specifically work on the skills that are holding me back besides mechanics.

I'm assuming, reachdabeach, that you play on "easy" and have the Kayran trap. It's largely useless as a trap, but it comes with (yellow) signposts. So Geralt knows exactly where to place Yrden. That makes the fight easier by seven classes.

Try the following:

  • Your action zone is in the middle between Kayran and the rim: if you get too close to the rim, Geralt will be stuck, too close to the Kayran and Geralt will be electrocuted. Imagine that a tentacle is lying on the ground and you make a semicircle through the disco ball in the middle of the tentacle: this is your action space.
  • Geralt jumps into the arena and runs to the left, a short distance past the first tentacle (see video). The tentacle swoops down but misses Geralt. Can you see that the disco ball lands right on the yellow mark?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqoWXx-IBRk

  • Our hero runs to the marker and places Yrden. He stands and waits for the tentacle's impact - knowing full well that on "easy" the damage will be minimal.

  • The tentacle strikes, Geralt knocks it off and goes to the head of the severed tentacle part.

  • The Kayran rages, but Geralt stands in the safe zone. No running, no rolling, just shrugging and watching.

  • Geralt remains in place and casts Yrden again. Dont move. The tentacle strikes, Geralt knocks it off and goes back to the head of the severed tentacle part. The Kayran rages (rightly so) because he has failed again to seriously harm Geralt.

Can you do that? If so, two-thirds of the work is done. If no: What seems to be too difficult for you?

If you don't have a Kayran trap, the whole thing works the same way - with the difference that you now have to look carefully at where the disco ball lands. There you must use Yrden:

Good luck!

Wow - thanks. I had not completed that side quest. I guess I need to head over to the streets of Loredo. I thought I had read something about dealing with him after the Kayran and the timing led me to believe that also (he tells you to come by at a later point, but Kayran starts right away). I got a little too focused on the steps for the Kayran, talking to merchants and making the potion and when I got down there and was able to take a tentacle, I figured I was properly equipped and should go ahead and take core of it next. I had wandered around town talking to people and checking doors and whatnot, but it wasn't at night.

Anyway, besides the instructions that will greatly simplify things, it gives me something to do next besides the Kayran.

I believe you. Unfortunately, I am not a child; far from it. I was initially put off by it being dark mode when I first saw your post; some things are not quite the same. I did just watch it and it is helpful, though I lack your skill with the camera. That is a hurdle I have a hard time with for some reason. I can do it okay when I practice outside of battling but I get flustered. I tend to get stuck near the rim if I run around back there, but your camera work keeps you out of trouble and then you easily get it back where you need it.

I appreciate your help as well as @max.strauss

It can compound the frustration when I ask for help and get those "get gud" replies. My reflexes are not in the improving phase and games have easy modes for a reason. It is nice when I get such thorough suggestions.

It helps to have a good build, put your skill into extra charges of sign to aid you, at least the level 1 dodge to have quicker and further dodge distance, don't waste your skill points on knife throwing for example. Train just the extra sign charge and what you need to unlock the other 3 tree's. No knife throwing. Once you can train signs, get the extra charges. If you kill the egg sacks and Nekker nests you will cease having respawns to kill and level from. Only complete those side quests when you're ready to end the chapter. You can level high enough to train most of the extra sign charges in chapter 1 and then you have it the rest of the game. Get level 1 dodge, it helps a lot toward getting out of the way when the Kayran strikes. Always cast Quen and keep it up. If you set a yrden then use Quen and dodge you will beat the kayran in less than 6 minutes.:essenceofwater:
