There's also when were you keep them all alive, like, is there a reward for either path?

Only 1.3% have gotten the Trollslayer achievement. Being part of that group is kinda a reward

If you want achivments kill them. If you want to play the game as an actual roleplaying game and do what Geralt would do. DOn't kill them. Geralt doesnt kill sentiant monsters that are no threat. This includes Trolls.

Well you have to go with both paths if you are aiming for the acheivements but to answer your question, it doesn't matter much if you kill or spare the trolls but this only applies to chapter 2. Chapter 1 on the other hand is a different story, if you choose to kill the troll then you will be rewarded with some orens from Louis Merce but if you choose to spare him and help him, the quest will be much longer and by the end of the quest, you would have already killed a bandit who has the bandit hideout key which unlocks the door of the bandits hideout which is hidden in flotsam forest and in which you can find a chest containing a steel sword ( I think it was a superb cutlass of damage 16-22) along with a sun rune. You will be also rewarded with 200 orens once you finish that quest if you chose to help the troll. However it is worth mentioning that the game doesn't tell you the location of the bandit hideout, you have to find it on your own. Also it is worth mentioning that geralt usually follows a paricular witcher code which would prevent him from killing monsters that are not dangerous and trolls in this game are not dangerous, they can be helpful so geralt wouldn't have slayed them.

Why not both lols?

You need two runs to see the two sides of the story , just make sure when you kill , you kill all and when you let live , you let live all.

Don't kill the poor Trolls. They just want to live in peace.

The drunkard who kept throwing 1-ton boulders at me seems to disagree with that...

I spared them all in my 1st gameplay, poor fellow just lost his wive.
However, I plan to be less Geralt-ish and go crazy on my 2nd: kill them all! Also, remember to get the Summer Solstice achivement nearby at chp 1.

Act 1, Flotsam's forests, beneath the bridge.

I guess it depends either on what achievment you want to get or whats your interpretation of Geralt is. There two achievments connected to the trolls: kill em all or let em all live in one playthrough.
I didn't killed any of them, because I am huge fan of the Witcher lore and in the way I see Geralt he would never kill something for no reason. Trolls in the Witcher universe act and live like humans, they just have not the biggest brains, but they talk, feel and are ofthen friendly if you let them live in peace. They just want to make a living and find their place in a world controlled by the human race and have mostly a hard time.
Witchers kill monsters and don't act like cruel renegades who have no heart, especially not Geralt. Killing something which is no harm to humans, only for fun or for gold like a bountyhunter would be against the Witchers codex, at least against the codex of the wolveschool Witchers. And it doesn't fit to Geralts character anyway - he is a good guy. :Toxic_Geralt:

One of the rules in The Witcher's game: If you can speak with a troll don't kill it!

In case with the drunk troll from Flotsam you gotta hurt it a little to sober it up then you can talk.

Juts for record CDRP has a thing fro trolls and succubus. And witchers kill dangerous monsters only.

Its not about the achievments, dude. Its about the story and how it makes you feel.

I really wish CD Projekt Red would have taken some liberties and allowed you to create your own charactor to play the story.
