Witcher 2 just laggy
I love the Witcher, so I bought witcher 2,
and its laggy as all ever. its terrible I put in a fix found somewhere on the internet which did indeed make it better but not by too much
its still choppy almost.

Any ideas and help? I want to play but its so darn choppy its getting harder and more irratating to move Geralt around

This game does require a beefier gaming rig than usual. On my previous one it helped a ton by turning down the resolution to 720p.

desactivate uber sampling .
Frank Castle Jun 26, 2014 @ 6:50am
Deactivate Ubersampling.
If still lagging,then your PC is not the PC gotham deserves. kthanxbai

I have simply clicked - Auto Detect on the launcher, and it is running on 60 FPS pretty well.

by lag do you mean the game stutters?
Dave1029 Jun 26, 2014 @ 11:04am
WItcher 2, even on capped settings, will only use 600 MB of Vram. Most modern cards (2011+) will have much more disposable Vram. The stutter comes from the game having to constantly swap out ram on your card, rather than being able to cache the immediate area. I like to reserve 500 Mb of vram for other things, so for me, having an r9 290x, I set a custom vram usage amount, and I set it at 3 GB. More than enough to cache the entire area, and my stutter stopped. To change this setting yourself, go to my documents-> witcher 2->config--> user.ini. Modify texture memory budget to your cards total vram-500mb. So if you have a 2 GB card, give the game 1.5 GB of vram.

Just to add to this dude comment

Texture Memory Size (MB)
This setting determines the amount of memory which the game will allocate for storage of textures. It has no real impact on FPS, nor does it alter image quality in the game. It only affects the amount of stuttering and visible texture loading which occurs as you wander the game world. The optimal setting to use depends in large part on the amount of Video RAM (VRAM) on your graphics card, as well as the Texture Downscaling setting covered above.

The available preset settings are shown below.

Very Small = 100MB
Small = 200MB
Medium = 300MB
Large = 400MB
Very Large = 600MB

for a custom amont you need to go in the the user.ini find the bit that says;

TextureMemoryBudget=600

and assign a custom value in Megabytes for this setting. There is no cap on the value for this variable, change the number to what ever your Vram can afford. This number need to be put in MB's (Remember 1024 MB is 1GB)

Yes i suppose giving my computer specs wouldve helped.
Ive never had problems with other games you can see by my list i have a wide range, of games i play from older to newer, along with d3 and wow.
its just this game is like choppy as a previous user said it stutters...kinda giving me a headache while playing its just not smooth like other games but i guess lag was a bad word cause its not like lag in say fps games when your stopping than end up half way somewhere else

i have a
inel core i7-3770 cpu @ 3.40ghz
16 GB ram
496 hardrive space available
and my graphics card is a
Geforce GT 630

sorry i hope that helps im not too computer savy

also assuming the above dosn't work you could try reducing pre-rendered frames. (try above stuff first then repot back please)
ChaosBahamut Jun 26, 2014 @ 12:31pm
Well, that explains it. Your Geforce 630 is to blame.

Put everything to low and hope for the best, or get a better graphics card. Cause that 630 just isn't up to par.

Wow! Thanks! I have two 4GB (4096MB) GTX 780M in SLI. I changed the Texture Memory Size to 3GB (3072MB) & now I can even use Ubersampling without any trouble @ 1920x1080. Before I would get some stutter with Ubersampling on even though fps seemed fine, but not now. :D:

I dont see why you have to be rude I just asked for help...
So I dont have the best computer in the world, big deal doesnt make me dislike gaming, or see if i can improve the game play for something I bought and enjoyed playing by asking others for help.

BDK Jun 26, 2014 @ 1:10pm
Well your CPU is great.
You have plenty of ram, that's awesome.
The thing holding you back is your graphics card. That's about it really :)
