[Resolved] I can't get past the launcher?
Hi. Got a new laptop that's running Windows 10. For some reason I can't get the game to launch. If I press play from the Steam library the launcher opens, and if I click Play the launcher just closes and opens again.

I updated the drivers, and my computer meets both the recommended and minimum requirements.

Oh, and I also ran this in compatibility mode as an admin for Windows 7 and 8 but that didn't work.

Is there something I have not tried yet?

*********************************************************************

Ok I finally got it to work.

Here's what I did.

1. Completely close Steam.
2. Open steam as an Administrator.
3. Go to the file location of the witcher2.exe as an administrator (in the bin folder). Don't run the launcher.exe. Both of these applications open the launcher, but for some reason only the witcher2.exe allows me to get past launcher. If I open the game through the launcher.exe the luncher just loops.

I also have my graphics card defaulted to my nvidia gpu.

Hi, thank you for responding.

I'm using an Acer

Model: Aspire E5-573G
Processor: Intel Core i5-5200U CPU 2.20 GHz 64 bit
Installed memory: 8.00 GB
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 940M
- Video RAM 2.0 GB
- Pixel Shader Version: 5.1
- Vertex Shader Version: 5.1
Operating System: Windows 10 (build 10240), 64 bit.

My last laptop was able to run the game with lower ram and an older video card. I'm 99% sure this is a windows 10 issue.

I'm doing that right now. I'll see if it works.

Did the verification but it still loops.

Tried with compatibility mode for Win 7 and Win 8 and the launcher does the same thing.

Does not need compatibility mode, disable all of that.

Hi, I ran it with the nvidia gpu as default and I got the same error.

I aslo tried to install the vcredist_x86 install application in the redist folder to install the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable software. However, when I tried to do this I got an error stating that "a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

I'm assuming that Witcher 2 needs this specific version to run, and maybe that's why it won't work on my version of Windows?

Ignore that I said previously about the C++ 2010 software, that's not an issue.
