Nexus Mod Manager save files location?
I have started playing Witcher 2 while using the Nexus Mod Manager in order to use 2 mods (Dynamic HUD and No Heartbea for Cat Potion). I have noticed that Nexus Mod Manger does NOT use the default save file location in the My Documents folder.

I have been looking for the save location that NMM uses for a while now but I can't find anything.. Any ideas?

if you didnt change anything at install it should be in the C drive in folder called games. are you looking for the nexus prog itself or just the saved mods? if you changed it at install it could be differnt but if you just loaded and ran it, it should be in same drive as your W2 game as nexus needs to be on same drive appearently to run correctly.

I'm looking for the save game files. I wanted to back them up but I can't find them anywhere.

I know excactly where I have NMM installed, where it has the mods files saved, where the Steam game files are and the default location Witcher saves the game but I can't find any Save Files anywhere.

The folder in C:/Users/<User name>/My documents/Witcher2/gamesaves is empty! And there is nowhere to be found any folder (in the install dir of either nexus, the withcer or the install dir of nexus' mods) that has the saved game files.

The funny thing is that when I start the game, all my saves are in place and can load them without any problems..

There's gotta be something I'm missing...

Uhmmmm, did you activate the cloud save feature in game or Steam by accident? One mis-click in the menu will change the .INI from "gamesaves" to "20920".

mine too...i am just starting W2. go into the game and get a save title and look it up by name and go to folder. i would try this to see if it works but i am still practicing in the tutorial because this is first game i have played with steam controler. if i find anything beyond that i will let you know. thats the only i dea i have for right now.

I found them! I didn't think to look in the Steam install folder (I have Steam insatlled to C:\ and Steam Games are installed to D:\ ) but I never knew that there are stuff being saved there.

So, after I saw stcaFyInO's comment, I did a search in my drives for "20920". I know I had both in-game cloud and steam cloud disabled so I think it's curious to find the save files in my
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\415somethingsomething\20920\remote

I do know that when I played the game for the first time, both cloud save options where on for some reason. Maybe that's why it moved my saves to that folder.

So, the save files should either be in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\415somethingsomething\20920\remote
(asuming you have Steam installed to C:\

or at

C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves

Yep, the cloud feature is sneaky. You can have Steam Client and the game both set to use local saves, not the remote (cloud), but if you click on the in game menu item (for cloud), it will appear to fail but edit the .INI :(

Even more problematic, is that you not only have to shut down the game, but also Steam if editing the .INI; otherwise, Steam will revert your changes, every time you launch the game :O

Nexus mod manager is there to back up your mods it is not there to back up your games some mods require extra efort to install. I found this video series quite helpfull on the subject .

I wasn't using NMM to backup the saves. To back the saves all you need is to find them and copy-paste them to a "safe" folder (in 99% of the games). I couldn't find the saves in their original location, so I thought that NMM saves the game like Mod Organizer does for Skyrim, per-profile-saves in a different location.

I used NMM because I wanted to try a couple of texture replacement mods that had about a trillion files each, so I wouldn't be able to restore the vanilla game if I wanted. And, since I don't like NMM, because it still makes changes to the game's file directly, before using it I had already tried to use Mod Organizer (the bestestest of the bestest of the best mod organizing tool for Skyrim) to mod Witcher 2, but, as I figured out, it can't be used for that game :-(

Also, the video you found, it's Gopher's!!!! I love this guy! He's the best in explaining stuff and his playthroughs are awesome! Check his channel! I have seen the video you show me (as I believe I have seen more than two thirds of his channel's videos!!) Thanks!
