The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

PC vs. Xbox
I happen to have 2 copies of the game, one on each system.
I have no controller for PC and sadly there are no drivers for X360 Controllers available for Windows 8.

However the graphics look bettter on my computer and I also have a Savegame from Witcher 1 imported.

So it's basically a question of choosing better graphics (+ savegame) vs. better controls.

I guess I'm goin to play this on Pc, but would like to hear some opinions.

on the one hand, if you have good specs i would recommend playing it on pc, since i personally feel more connected to the story when i play it on pc, rather than consoles (there's just something about being close to the screen) however, the control scheme on the xbox controller is incredibly intuitive, and easy to learn. The pc controllers are pretty good (In comparison to Witcher 1. if you think the keyboard will be like witcher 1, it wont, they fixed the scheme). Overall, the question is if you're willing to sacrifice much better graphics and fps over playing with controller. I' don't have a concrete answer, since i love the graphics on PC, but using the controller is really satisfying and much easier than keyboard. I would recommend playing on PC, final answer.... or you could just update to wiundows 10 and get those drivers. :)

Btw, playing with a saved file from witcher 1 adds so much more depth to the story on PC

Well I also played W3 on PC and W2-controls are quite similar, but dont feel as fine as in W3.
Still this may help gettin started as well.

Also I like my current setup, been and will be avoiding Win10 upgrade ;-)

So thx for answer. PC it is!

What? XBOX 360 controllers work fine by default with Win 8.

If you're having trouble check out this info:

Set up a wired controller on Windows 8.1 or Windows 8

Drivers for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 are installed by default. Simply plug your controller into a USB port and the driver will self-install.

If you’re having trouble with the drivers, you can install the controller software on a Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 PC by using Windows 7 compatibility mode. To do this:

Step 1: Install the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows software

Go to Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. Select the version of Windows 7 that matches the processor on your computer:
Windows 7 (32-bit only)
Windows 7 (64-bit only)
From the Language dropdown list, select the operating system language.
Select Download.
Select Save.
Right-click the Setup program and select Properties.
On the Compatibility tab, select the Run this program in compatibility mode for checkbox, and then select Windows 7 from the dropdown list.
Select Apply, and then select OK.
Double-click the Setup program to run it. The Xbox 360 Accessories Setup program installs the necessary files on the computer. You might be prompted to restart the computer when finished.

Step 2: Connect the Xbox 360 wired controller to your computer

Plug the Xbox 360 wired controller into any USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on the computer.

Step 3: Test the controller

Open the Game Controllers dialog box.
For Windows 8: At the Start screen on your computer, type joy.cpl. Then, in the search results, select joy.cpl.
Select Xbox 360 Controller, and then select Properties.
Test your Xbox 360 wired controller by pressing a button, pulling a trigger, or moving a stick on the controller.
If your controller is not detected by your PC, try plugging it into a different USB port, and then test it again.

Refer to your game documentation for information about how to configure the Xbox 360 controller for a specific game.

PC (don't care about my playtime on steam, i have the retail version, too); game now runs pretty well on all average rigs since it isn't a recent game, and you can use controllers on pc too; some work natively, some require emulators, but you can have them on pc; no reason to play it on xbox imo, if your pc can run it

Lol what? There are official drivers from Microsoft for the X360 and XBone controllers. It's literally the first link if you search "xbox 360 controller official driver" on Google.

I only have wireless 360 controllers, but no Gaming Receiver.

Quote from the link of Migz - DH :

" Set up a wireless controller on a Windows PC

Note A standard Xbox 360 wireless controller can be connected to a Windows PC, but you must have an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver to play games, even if you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit.
"

Yes the way I said it in OP was wrong, sure there are drivers,..

yet thanks to #6 - most useless comment ever

Buy a gaming receiver. They're very cheap and you can find them on amazon, ebay and many other online stores. Or perhaps ask a friend who has a wired X360 controller if you can buy it from him/her.

My suggestion is play the game on both platforms, given the visual style are quite different on each system.

Does your pc by any chance support bluetooth?

Why? Can you connect an X360 controller using bluetooth?

Just get a receiver, they cost like 10$ on ebay or aliexpress. I have an original one (bundled with wireless x360 controller, red box) and another one which is a chinese "compatible" receiver (knock-off really) and they both work equialy well in Win 7, 8 and 10.

TBH i am using the knock-off more than the original one since it has shorter cable that doesn't get in the way.

And no, you can't connect X360 wireless controller via bluetooth. Sony's controllers use bluetooth, Microsoft is using RF.
