There are several which are popular, from small cosmetic changes to major innovations to the gameplay mechanics.

However, for the first time I'd recommend to play the game without modifications. Even the most benign and popular mods have a chance of breaking something in the game (e.g. make your character almost invincible by mistake, or making it impossible to finish some quests, etc.).

Besides, you might like the unmodified game as is, so why not give it a try first?

i disagree, i suggest mods right at the start, because parts of the game just aren't enjoyable or fun, and some things are a real pain. Like most games you should play the game normally at first to have fun, not to worry about mods, but...

Enhanced mod compliation http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/696/?

I consider this a must have mod, getting the middle file EMC minimalist. This adds a few things to the game such as better inventory management, and what i consider a must have, glowing lootable items and containers, otherwise the game becomes just a boring search loot fest, this way you can actually play the game and grab what ever is near you as you go instead of spending lots and lots of time searching for stuff, which i did the first playthrough and restarted half way because i was just bored with searching. Plus a few other things.

Believe me, it makes the game much more fun, fixes a couple pain in the butt game features, and lets you enjoy the better parts of the game like the story, fighting, etc instead of spending 5 minutes trying to examine every thing in the room you just entered, only to repeat x1000.

Many mods dont' work with each other due to them using the same shared file and overwriting that file when you download, so many people just pick maybe 1 mod to use for something in the game that they don't like (minigame mod to make armwrestling, etc easier), skill mods to get 2 skills per level instead of the basic 1 (especially at higher levels), etc.

Me, I really recommend the minimalist file of the enhanced mod compliation if only for the glowing loot feature.

Thanks for posting this. I've decided it's time to play this game and was checking for some QoL mods.

There are not many really great mods for witcher 2. However, i suggest a few small and very specific mods that fix small annoyances in the gameplay. The game overall though is very well made and hardly needs fixing in the first place.

1)Dynamic HUD. Works like iHUD from Skyrim.

2)Reduced Medallion Cooldown. Makes looting and exploring much more efficient, the only necessary fix in my opinion.

3)Pirouette Dodge. This is a pure immersion mod, as Geralt never rolled in combat, but instead flowed and danced elegantly between enemies using pirouettes and such. Another great mod.

4)No heartbeat for Cat potion. A nuisance fix

5)Gibbed Red Tools is needed in order to mod inside the base_scripts.dzip file

please don't use any combat mods the first time, they all change the base game way too much.

I tried downloading that suggested mod group, but Nexus doesn't seem to want me to have it.
I tried signing in, no luck. I tried registering, no luck. What is the matter with that outfit?

You must have an account on Nexus in order to download. Also, as far as the Witcher 2 is concerned, i recommend modding manually, without the Nexus mod manager.

Thanks, I thought I saw where an account with them was free, but they wanted some "pounds"
for an account, so I guess I'll pass on modding my game.
I thought i used to have an Nexus account, but it probably was with my old email address, so that's probably where my "forgot password" message went. Anyway, thanks for responding!

Having an account at Nexus is completely free dude. I'm not sure where you could have been asked for money.

A paid account gets you faster downloads, as I recall. When I was modding Skyrim I paid for a one month's enhanced membership, it let me download everything I needed quicker. but you don't need much for Witcher, the free account should be adequate.

Thanks, guys, I will try again!

Guess we are talking about a different Nexus. The one I can reach wants money, in "Pounds",
for an account. I see anywhere from 1.29 pounds, to about 49 pounds, but I saw nowhere that
said "free". I have tried several times to use my old account, and they say they have sent me
an email with instructions for taking care of a forgotten password, but I never receive it.
I am ready to give up on Nexus, and modding Witcher 2, but I still appreciate you guys trying
to help. Thanks very much!

i just checked and saw that screen u are talking about. Above all the premium packages it says you can simply skip this step if u want a free account. Don't check any boxes and just click "Create Account"

ps: happy modding ;)

I finally got a new account, (free), established! I guess they couldn't handle the fact that i had to change my email address.
