The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

How does the game get after Flotsam?
I dont mind rolling around and stuff to find enemies, but once I enter the forest I get attacked by endless spiders and drowners at the same time, and they just keep coming. rolling around or blocking doesnt help, because or I roll to a different enemy or I just get backstabbed if I block.

So, being killed in 5 hits is something I can live with. but the combination of easy death and endless enemies, will this stay during the entire game?

Also, is the witcher 3 also like this?

Much better. The majority of Flotsam sucks and for varied reasons.

No. You can even play on hard just fine, later on, with little to no issues. Death March is for masochists, though. I don't recommend it.

Not really. Witcher 3 shows if you're capable of mopping the floor with an enemy or get wrecked by it i.e. everything is leveled plus you can always pick your own battles (unless they're scripted, that is).

It's pretty comfortable to play on normal, you probably haven't got used to combat yet, or found a decent equipment.
In TW3 combat is more varied and potions + bombs + signs give tons of options, and I'm comfortable playing on Death March. I was kind of afraid to try TW2 on anything higher than normal, guess I'll try on next playthrough.
Witcher 2 is amazing in Chapter 2 to end of 3, just train the extra charges of signs and make a lot of bombs, don't waste points on knife throwing, train health boosts, sell everything and only keep the absolute best swords and armor, wear the magi gloves, the Troll rewards you with Hunter Armor diagram for free if you help him find the killers and his mate's head, Use Sword of Kaer Morhen found on a skeleton in the glen where you talk to Iorveth with Zoltan, Once you begin chapter 2 you will need it. Specter oil is a must and remember to save Greater Mutagen variants for End game. Madness Mutagen is the best so keep them and train the alchemy ability to boost them by 35% before you slot them. Once you load up as many Madness Mutagen you can find, only then use up the Greater Vitality and stuff, for hard settings I suggest only using Madness, Greater Vitality and Critical in that order because you will need to tank a lot. People think the Kayran and Letho are tough, they haven't met the real baddies yet. Never buy stuff from the merchants like armor or weapons, only ever buy diagrams after you acquire the haggle ability. You get Haggle by using quen on the merchant that hires you to kill the Kayran, you need to charm him into paying you more. Once you do Triss will want to go to the prison barge, just talk to her and leave to go buy diagrams for crafting parts, runes, bombs, oils and potions you need. Then I suggest you go do the ritual to remove the curse from the Amulet of Milletele if you got it from the reavers. Only then continue with the story. Once you do all of that stuff you should be ready to face Letho. You will get free diagrams for the Harpy traps, sell off excess supplies like Nekker teeth and claws, you can get loads of orens!! Save Nekker hearts to make runes and Endrega saliva for fire runes. Oh, and Witcher 3 the wild hunt is better, bigger, easier, no timed mini games, no more dice game, now there is cards, no arm wrestle matches, all new skill tree and no knife throwing hence why I said don't bother. Just sell the knives.

The combat is good from the very beginning, kvaldir, but you have to get used to it - and you have to learn some important things.

The monsters have their specific weaknesses. Endregas f.i. are sensitive to Yrden. This sign is of great importance even in boss fights, and it is not necessary to invest a single talent point.

So you can farm Endregas from the very beginning after your arrival in Flotsam:

Even Endrega Queens can be handled the same way;

Btw.: Endregas should get your friend. :steamhappy: They deliver crafting material for excellent armor:

Every beginning is difficult - with all more complex games. So don't worry. The sooner you engage in the game, the more you'll enjoy the battles. The most important basic rule: Don't let yourself be surrounded, backside attacks are dangerous for opponents and for Geralt.
This means: move a lot.

Good luck!
You just need to get better at combat, which will just take mileage, hang in there.
I enjoy Flotsam now, but on my first playthrough, like you, I remember being disoriented in the forests not really sure where to go, etc. Best advice I can give is check your journal frequently as each quest at the top will tell you what the next step is and if you make the quest active by selecting it, the ones that are active (that you can actually progress at that point in time) it will let you know where to go on your map.

Witcher 3 is a lot more open and easier to navigate - the whole game is an open world basically. Witcher 2's maps are pretty linear. Games back when it was made were not as opened up, likely due to hardware and software limitations.

That being said, I like Witcher 2 as much as Witcher 3 as I love its story, locations, and characters. The whole series is just awesome.

Agreed! I would even say that Witcher 3 is better if you've played through 1 and 2 first because the situations make sense and meeting old friends matters more. For example, I have never met anyone who romanced Triss if they played 1 and 2, everyone who picks Triss only played 3.

Hah, well you can say you have now. ;) I always pick Triss. Played all the games about 7 or 8 times a piece and read all the books twice.
well shame on you!
