Which bomb?*** The frame is used to build a Kayran-trap.
But you don't need bombs and this special trap, although it's very, very useful - not as trap, but as signpost.
I'm pretty sure that you can solve the Kayran problem with your own hands - even without trap. Watch this video thoroughly; it demonstrates the easiest way to handle the Kayran - by far:

DL: easy.
You need almost nothing - no potions, oils, no armor, no dodging/rolling - the cheapest silversword will do the job.
If you want to play it on a higher DL then follow this path:
Now you have to watch exactly where Geralt should cast Yrden. This one is with Kayran-trap, so you will find no sign posts:
On any other level you should be aware of these facts:
* You are confronted with three QTEs instead of one.
* No tentacle is able to hurt Geralt if you use Quen. So start with Quen and refresh it after a tentacle hits Geralt.
Here's the ballet on "dark", but it's almost the same for any other DL but "easy".( Well: On dark mistakes are deadly.)

*** The bomb that Geralt uses at the end of the fight is a rabbit out of the hat - ah, out of his underpants.
Btw.: It should be pretty much impossible to loose the iron frame. Have a look at your quest inventory (Symbol: Shield + !). Can you find it? Then visit Cedric.

But the good thing is I did beat the Kayran without any bombs/traps, just Yrden sign and my silver sword. So a big Thank You to everyone for your advice and help!
I also beat Letho with no traps (you don't have a lot of time to set them while he's wailing on you and casting spells at you). I also used Yrden for that and it slowed him enough to get 5-6 hits in. Although it took me a long time because he likes to throw those blue fireballs at you, I eventually wore him down enough that he ran out (and apparently kidnapped Triss
