What's so great about silver swords?
The game and people are telling me I need to get a silver sword. Found the first smith with a "silver-plated sword" to sell in the game's first town, but its 304 gold and while the damage is a bit better than Geralt's steel sword (8-11), the silver-plated sword has 8-16, and has an effect called "Bleeding 4%" ... but the steel sword has bleeding 10%.

Should I really buy the silver sword? I guess there's a sidequest that is completed by getting it, so maybe it's worth it for that... but it doesn't seem that much better than the regular steel sword.

Does the silver sword having less of that bleeding effect mean it's worse than the ordinary long sword (a steel sword) Geralt has?

Also, the sword in the shop is called a "silver-plated sword", not a "silver sword" ... not sure if that makes a difference.

You need both. Silver is effective against monsters, while steel is effective against humans. You'll do minimal damage without the correct weapon type.

Are you this new to Witcher, or is this an attempt at trolling?:Toxic_Geralt:

Yeah I'm new to the Witcher

I know the story supposedly says silver swords are better vs non-human monsters, but didn't see any bonus vs monsters listed in the stats on the item so I was wondering

It's not in the stats, just a part of the lore that silver is effective against monsters.

You've got it wrong, temps. These stats are valid if you use the correct sword for the appropriate opponents. But I assume you are playing on "easy", else the difference would be evident.

My character is doing low damage ("the difference would be evident") as indicated by the other thread I posted asking for weapon tips.

Then follow the advice and Geralt will hit powerful - as long as he doesn't muddle up silver and steel. Don't forget: Runes and armor reinforcements in the slots make a big difference...
