The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Stuck in "Where is Triss Merigold" quest. [SPOILERS]
I now have to search cedric by following his blood trail, but whenever I get close to an exit, a guard shouts "Kill the bastard" and the cutscene where geral is shot to death starts. There is no place I can go without this happening.

It is stopping me from progressing the story.

It's a "bug" you can read about elsewhere, that is debated hotly, because the devs have never said this isn't exactly how the game should work. Some choices in this game...even dialogue choices...can be immediately fatal...or fatal later on. In this case, ya chose to live by the sword, and now yer gonna die by it, because the Devs wanted to moralize at you.

In the place of the devs, I'd have at least made the fact that this "bug" is a *consequence* of your *actions* earlier a lot more clear. I would have had the guards in the cut scene say something specific like "He cut down those townsfolk! Kill him!"

In any case, you're being punished for killing civilians who happened to be acting like armed freaking combatants. It's a chain of horrors. Geralt feels justified in offing the townsfolk who are going on a racist murder spree. The guards feel justified in offing Garalt who, from their perspective, is busy murdering civilians. Of course, the guards have rather lost sight of the fact that they are *supposed* to protect the townsfolk...even from each other...so whoever "started" the actual aggression has forfeit their rights to life and liberty with that choice. But whatever. Enough philosophizing.

----

The ONLY fix is to roll back to a previous save ... hopefully after you faced Letho, definitely before you entered Flotsom for the first time after facing him. You have to go back that far because even if you step-step-quicksave your way all the way to the gate and go look for Cedric, when you face guards later on the docks, you'll have the exact same problem with the cutscene, and I don't think you can step-quicksave your way out of that to get to the boat.

So...

When you go into the town and you see it's all gone crazy with rioting, do NOT treat it like a war zone. If you wander around with your sword unsheathed just slashing anyone you can, you will end up "kill on sight" to the guards and trigger the cut scene every time, and be stuck.

I wouldn't risk killing any civilians at all. Use some other conversation option. They hex easily, or by now you should be able to intimidate them. Whatever. Make love not war! ... Anyhoo, if you *do* decide to off them, kill them *very* quickly, get your sword sheathed as soon as possible, and quicksave as soon as you have successfully finished interacting with a group (you can tell by going near the guards or an exit). I *think* you can just ignore them and let them murder each other and be ok too.

It really sucks....but you should have *some* save that you can go back to that will fix it, I hope.
