The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

extremely low fps
No matter what settings I use the fps are 20 or lower- I don't have ubersamping on before anyone suggests it. My computer should be able to run it perfectly and the suggested settings when clicking the auto-check are all high. I'm not sure what to do at this point, as it's Steam downloaded so I can't go through the game file itself.

What's your hardware?
Witcher 2 is a heavy game even to this day.

Very frequently someone comes here with low fps thinking their PC should be able to run it pretty well but when they tell their hardware it's clearly not powerful enough. Even though it's a game from 2011, some gpus released over 5 years later was still not powerful enough to run it well.

You can totally go through the game files of Steam games.. What makes you think you can't?

With any post like this you need to list you specs of your computer. I have posted now on about 5 threads in the last month where people who thought their computers were good enough, actually were not. Many with really fast CPU's however they had a poor graphic card.

The issue is the way they label graphic cards can be misleading, a graphic card that sounds good enough to handle the game, may not actually be that good. Due to this game needing a top of the range graphic card when it was first released, so while the game is getting on a bit, even some new low end cards can struggle.

Just beaten to the post by ViDAL :p

Also if you do not know what they are. If you click on help at the top of steam, then click on system information. Cut and paste what is in there.

Head to Documents\Witcher 2\Config and once there open up User.ini (if you dont know how, just use your notepad)

Find TextureMemoryBudget in there and change it to whatever your VRam in MB is (In my case 8192)

This did the trick for me

EDIT: Be sure to do this AFTER you've already set your general settings in the configuration tool. If not, you'll have to redo this. Anyway, hope this helps. Enjoy the game!

While a good thing to try, before the op does anything, they need to list specs, there is no point in editing files etc, if their computer is simply underpowered.

i5 4590 Quad Core, 2GB RX 460 Graphics (I apologize if none of that makes sense I'm new to owning a proper computer and am just listing things)

Okay well straight up. The RX 460 aint great.

There have been other threads with people who own the same card having similar issues. (if you google, you will find them).

When you click on the game, it will bring up a launcher, from there you can change the game settings, put everything on low and see how it plays. Then you can increase things until you get to the point your gpu starts to struggle.

Auto detect programs do not always get it right and often set games at the wrong level/

Hmmm... So your GPU is a bit too weak for your CPU, which may be causing a bottleneck there.

A good way to check if something else is wrong with your performance is to check on Youtube how other people are running the game with similar specs.

Look at this video of someone running Witcher 2 with the same video card as you. Is this the performance you're getting?

Try lower the graphic settings of the game or/and resolution.
You may want to disable depth of field as well.

Edit: Your video card is causing your CPU to perform 24% slower than it's capable of:

However, the video I posted is being played in a far worse CPU than yours. I think your hardware should be able to run the game well enough if you tweak the gaphical settings down a bit.

Apologizes for the late reply! No, even when I turn everything to the lowest setting it's still laggy

Minimum Requirement: A Radeon RX 460. Here's a comparison:

Scroll down to Gaming Performance and choose The Witcher 2.

Hmm, odd if you have your resolution lowered and detail levels, it should play...have you got anything like MSI afterburner installed? This can show you what your cpu and gpu are doing?

Possibly force the game to run vulkan?

That only works if the game was designed to run on the vulkan api. This is not one of them.
