riposte tutorial bugged?

i can't seem to get that sword icon to show up. ive tried every way i can think of to perform the skill but nothing is working. ive tried holding the e button at the first mid and last frames of the enemy attack. ive tried holding it before the attack. ive tried pushing both buttons at the same time, sequential, and rollin goff the e to the mouse button. i dont ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get it. i've tried it with the stamina bars filled and unfilled. i've tried it from the sides and up close and a step back. 30 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minutes of this ♥♥♥♥.

This worked for me in both tutorial and main campaing. I've played both multiple times and personally never faced this issue. Still if you did what I suggested above perfectly and it is still not working then I suggest skipping the tutorial.

Old post, but if it helps anyone It finally worked for me when I attacked the guy first, then immediately started pressing the parry button, then the symbol showed up and I could riposte.

Nah, it's just bugged, I tried doing what fallenkrystal suggested and it's not working. I never get the icon, tried attacking, parrying all the time, parrying at the exact moment, I can't get the icon to show up. I can't believe they didn't bug-check the tutorial...

Super old post, but if someone still has this problem I think I figured out the solution.
Looks like for some reason the riposte only occurs when Gerald has both vigor bars charged, so you may need to walk around the arena a bit for it to charge.

For the record, I haven't played the game, I'm actually here cause I was having this problem, so I don't really know if you're supposed to riposte with two vigor bars or it's just a bug.
