Battle of Vergen
Holy smokes. Fought the Battle of Vergen [Vergen Besieged] last night and what a blast! That has been the most fun I've had in The Witcher series so far.

What I would've loved is to have even more Kaedweni troops to repel; they keep mentioning the disparity in manpower, and seeing these numbers rendered during the battle would paint the real struggle and desperation. Do the harder difficulties increase the number of enemies?

No. I completed this game in insane difficulty & enemy number was same. It is a tactic against the regular brute force with highest number of enemies. Taking vantage points. Cutting of enemy supplies & reinforcement.

Great pity. There's great potential for a LOTR style siege, but I can imagine the burden of having to control so many AI units when the player can really only be fighting at one spot.

What I've taken to is chapter 3, where I can engage outnumbered the Order of Flaming Rose camp or international camp in Loc Muinne. They weren't designed to be conquered since their armour are so thick and they keep respawning, but so fun tackling them. Stalled the game just to engage in pointless combat and practise my swordsmanship.

Quite reminiscent to NieR Automata endless waves of level 99 enemy androids that "prevented" players from wandering away from the (part 3) main story. They were the most enjoyable bunch of opponents to engage instead of the actual enemies in the game.

It is a fine way to level up by fighting those order of flaming rose knights. The hardest boss battle has yet to come in game & it is optional. I see you have completed one path. To unlock this quest go to three little sisters' hut & in basement find the notes & then go to ban ard and unlock this mission.

I am replaying now for Roche's route, unfortunately my save files for chapter 1, which I moved out to avoid file overload, could not be recognised by the game when I moved them back to save folder. Only the most recent saves (i.e. chapter 3) could be recognised and I don't know what's the problem. I have been looking up past discussions regarding this matter and having no viable solution. I do not utilise Steam Cloud.

So I'm having to replay the prologue and chapter 1 all over again before I can make the decision to stick with Roche this time round. Meantime also bumped the difficulty to hard.

Do you want to have a "At a Crossroads"-savegame instead?

Thanks for the offer but I've already restarted the game (with hard difficulty this time round). While this game never had any design intention built into it, I'm kinda taking it like NieR Automata which asked players to sacrifice their save file(s) for the sake of the greater gamer community. It was one of the most meaningful methods to wipe a clean state and start all over again.

Also a chance to take alternative minor paths like opting to duel Aryan La Velette, etc.
