I can complete the first part of killing the Kayren (tentacles) but cant complete the rest. Help please?

How do I continue to kill the Kayran after I have cut off the 4 side tentacles? I stand near where I entered the lair, the big tentacles swing at me, I get swept up on 1 of them, I press the LMB multiple times, the bar fills all the way, AND ..... I get tossed off the tentacle to the ground and it still remains attached. I dont even get a "prompt" to press a button in order to jump off and thus sever the tentacle. I did this for 7 minutes, over and over again, taking no damage the whole time, but not chopping off the tentacle. I eventually stopped because I couldnt advance past this. What am I doing wrong?

Seems to be a technical issue.

Usually it is a problem of insufficient or incorrectly configured hardware.

Switch all graphics settings to the lowest level, playing in windowed mode at 640x480 (Launcher -> Settings). After the fight you may return to your old settings.

Do you have the actual driver software for your mouse from the manufacturer? Then start the appropriate program and look if you can find a setting option, such as "Button Response Time" there.

Btw.: It's sufficient to cut off three tentacles.

Ah, I see. Couldn't imagine that fenwe2 didn't know that Geralt has to run to the top of the bridge; in case of insufficient hardware the bridge will not collapse so that those players miss the opportunity to climb up to continue.

Hi guys. Thanks for your input. Max.strauss, I watched the video you included, and noticed one thing that happens on the video that doesnt happen in my game. When the giant tentacle swings at me, I automatically get swept onto it. In the video, when the giant tentacle swings at Geralt, a "Click Right Mouse Button" flasher appears, and I assume, if one doesnt click on it, one doesnt climb on the tentacle. But I dont get a "flasher" and I automatically get swept up. I dont understand why there would be a difference in my game as opposed to all the games I watched on video. Maybe because I cut off the 1st four tentacles instead of the 1st three? Any help from anyone will be appreciated. Thanks.

Which is your difficulty level, fenwe2?

If you "get swept up on 1 of them" automatically, then you play the game on easy - or you disabled "Difficult QTEs". In any other case you have 3 QTEs: One for getting on the tentacle, then you have to fill the bar, and one QTE if you are leaving it. Look at this video (in dark mode, but it's the same in normal and hard) and look at the bottom of the screen when Geralt reaches the highest point of his looping; it's indicated when you have to press <space>:

(On these DLs Geralt has to use Quen, then he is invulnerable by the tentacles.)

My Difficulty Level is on Easy. But see in the video, when Geralt goes for a ride on the tentacle? When it swoops down to its low point near the ground before swooping up and over to where Geralt has to jump off? At that low point is where I automatically fall off the tentacle. Thats the problem I keep having. Getting on it is no problem, it auto scoops me up. But then, on the low part of the swing, it auto drops me off, full bar or no full bar. And it happens over and over, et al. Maybe I will set the Difficulty to Normal with 3 QTEs and see what happens. Thanks.

Well, it seems that if a play anything higher than Easy Difficulty, I get squashed fairly quickly. So I cut off 3 tentacles. Then the 1 that I'm supposed to jump on auto swoops me up, QTEs or no QTEs, I auto fall off. Then the Kayran starts bashing me again, so I have to go and cut off the 4th tentacle in order to get it to go back and sweeping at me again. And then its just auto pickup, hack or no, then auto drop, ad naseum. For a game as great as this is, this whole Boss Monster part stinks. I HATE Boss Monsters.

That's the normal behavior on "easy": Geralt gets on the tentacle automatically, and the Kayran drops him on the lowest point. Pls look again at the video in post #3: What exactly is different?

Did the bridge colloapse before Geralt leaves the tentacle? If so: Why don't you run up the pillar?

And tell me your specs and resolution pls. When I read your post #7 then I ask myself if my first idea was right and the solution can be found in my post #2 ...

In the video in post #3, the Kayran swings Geralt up and around at least twice before it hits the broken bridge and the bridge collapses to form the ramp. For me, I get dropped by the tentacle on its first swing towards the ground, and after I fall off, nothing happens to the bridge: no hitting, no breaking, no ramp. I basically get dumped on the first swing of the tentacle while in the video, the tentacle swings around 2 or 3 times before Geralt jumps off and it hits the bridge.

About the specs and resolution, I really have no idea of what any of that means. I can get by with using a computer and game, but I dont understand that more in depth stuff. Sorry. If you tell me where to look for it, I can find it for you. In the meantime, I will try the battle with the numbers you included in your post #2. Thanks.

Don't know your operating system.

Win7: Press the start button, type in "msinfo32" (search function at the bottom) without the quotation marks and start "msinfo32.exe".

Win10: Type in msinfo32 into the cortana field on the bottom.

ps. What is the highest level that Geralt can get up to? I just made 10th level, and I want to know how many skill (?) points I will get so I can plan my development accordingly.

This isn't so hard as you may think in the first moment - by no means as hard as killing the Kayran.
