COD Ghosts: Mouse works in Single Player but not Multiplayer
I can't find my earlier posting on this. Everything works beautifully in single player. Start up multiplayer and the mouse does not move. A standard OS mouse pointer is visible on the menu screens but doesn't do anything except move. The game mouse pointer (which is stuck in the top left corner) doesn't move so can't be placed over the buttons.

I can fire, but not turn. I had a workaround earlier in the week that involved flipping to/from windowed mode and had a very pleasant evening gaming after finding that; but as of the update that arrived today that doesn't work either. Have since updated graphics drivers and OS, but still no luck.

This is a 64bit Win7 box with 14GB RAM and two six-core HT Xeons CPUs (X5650s) which Windows reports as 24 cores, so maybe the software is freaked out by too much CPU etc. Graphics is an NVIDIA GTX460. Audio is best not talked about, but currently configured to run through a SoundMax in stereo for simplicity. There are two mice attached, both wireless, a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 and a Kensington Orbit Mobile Trackball. Neither work inside multiplayer, though they work everywhere else (including single player).

The game sometimes comes up in safe mode. This doesn't change anything.

All clues appreciated, was really looking forward to playing. Steam logs will show that I'm a big fan or COD MP. :-(

Trying the game in window, it appears that the game is simply not grabbing the mouse. Clicking outside the window brings whatever is clicked on into focus, putting the game into the background.

Actually, it may not be that simple; left buttons on both mice are able to fire. But neither allow me to turn.

Now investigating if the two-mouse thing is the issue. Unplugged the Kensington dongle and COD crashed. After restart in safe mode (now Microsoft mouse+keyboard only) still the same problem.

This is getting sillier. I started up a gamepad. On startup the game asks me if I want to use it, so I try saying yes. The game comes up at 800x600 "full screen", but actually not full screen, just overlayed on top of the rest of what I was doing (at 1280x720). And the mousepad does nothing.

I now have nice little green circles around the letter "A" around each menu item, so it looks like the game is expecting the gamepad to work. But no. At least I can still navigate the menu by keyboard. Still no mouse, and none of the gamepad joysticks do anything.

How did my Saturday nights come to this?

Did you ever find a solution? I experienced the same thing after installing and turning on my external audio card (MOTU 896 mk3). The audio drivers and audio card firmware are up to date. COD Ghost works perfectly if I boot my PC with the audio card turned off and just use the on board audio. Also, it worked perfectly with my previous external audio card (Echo Layla 3G).

What audio card do you have?

I forgot to mention that what I think is happening, is that COD is switching to the MOTU audio card after turning it on. I've tried setting the default audio to the windows on board audio through Windows, but I don't see an option in COD to change the default audio.

I had similar issues with a mouse some time ago, turned out that the microsoft mouse was the problem. The mouse was an intellimouse, removed the driver, (I had to edit registry to take out all references to it), and just used windows default mouse driver and issue was gone. Still using both mice actually and this is a year later.
