Random freezing in extinction mode

Hey guys I downloaded ghosts for some nostalgia and went to extinction mode point of contact. Very early in the game, between 1-5 minutes the screen freezes. Sometimes the game catches up after a few seconds sometimes it never recovers and I need to force quit the game. I still hear the ambient sounds of the game even though the screen is frozen. I have looked all over and tried many different things to fix this but no luck. Here is what I've tried so far.

- Lowering graphics settings in game.
- Deleting appcache in the steam folder.
- Disabled Steam overlay and Geforce experience overlay.
- Defragment/optimise my hard drive.
- Uninstall entire game and reinstall on SSD instead.
- Set game processing priority from high to normal, also tried low.
- Reinstalled newest version Geforce game ready driver.
- Set Ghosts to only use the dedicated graphics card (RTX3070).
- Tried IW6X through the XLabs launcher, getting the same graphic issues.

Game runs perfectly smooth no matter the graphics settings (until freezing), and my computer should run ghosts on high quality settings.

Any suggestions to what I can try next is very appreciated. Anything helps! If there are any basic potential fixes I might not know about please let me know. In advance thank you so much!

Hi! I also have the same problem, but it happens from time ot time (sometimes, not very frecuently). If it frecuently happens, ask for give back the money of the game

Yeah seems like rare case based on the little information I found. I will monitor my system while playing next time I try. I have also been getting random black screens for a short second then I'm back to the same screen like nothing happened. Happens a few times a day, not only in games.

I would get this same issue most times I played, until I reinstalled from my F drive HDD to my C drive SSD. I know you said you tried installing it to an SSD, but it may be that it needs to be on C specifically. Since doing this it's never happened again, for months now. If you are gonna try to monitor what's running during the game I may be able to give you a head-start; it seems related to certain services Windows runs in the background. Since it's been a while I can't remember exactly which ones, but that's something to watch for.

This could just be a bad HDMI/Displayport cable. Maybe try a different one or even just replugging it.

Thanks brother. Tried to reinstall to the C drive, so far so good. I had a stuttering issue when scoping with a sniper, this seems to be solved as well!

I'm currently having the same issue on extinction I get to play for about 5-10min and the games just freezes, sound is still going but the game is frozen in place.I tried to install the game on the C drive like you guys suggested but not luck.If anybody has any fix for this problem let me know

For some reason the game started freezing for me again, regardless where it's installed. The only thing that's actually worked for me since then is playing the game on a new Windows profile. I've played 10s of hours that way with no problem, but I occasionally try on my usual profile again and still get the freezes. Inconvenient, sure, but it's the only fix I know of. It likely means there's a certain graphics setting or installation that causes it, but I don't know what it would be. Hope this helps.

Thank you for you fast replay Soup-chan,but I'm done with this games,I just asked Steam for refund,If Infinity Ward cant be bothered to update there own game run run normally on modern systems f**k them.A lot of people seems to have this problem and nothing seems to work to fix it apart from some strange things people have suggested like you with the new windows profile,again thx for the suggestion.

My best guess is that its a memory overload of some kind because when I play the extinction mode I always get to the second drill site and then the games crashes,so everything works fine but when the games need to load more things and assets it just crashes.

Just enable app to use your microphone and that's it!
