DISC READ ERROR??????????
OK.... I tried to reinstall the game and see if that helped. nope.

I'm getting to the main screen for about 8 seconds....... then I get a fatal error that reads "Disc read error".... ummmm

I have even went to the file iw6mp64_ship and tried to run as administrator..... same old NOPE.

I exceed the specs for the game... everything is updated and nothing at all is running in the background.........

any ideas.... if not where do I get a refund?

Have you verified the game files? If not, go to your Library, right click on the game in the list on the left. Select Properties, then the Local Files tab. Then select Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Disc error or crashes can sometimes mean a file was corrupted somewhere. If the verification finds that to be the case, the necessary file(s) will be redownloaded and the game should then work fine.

Also, you might want to shut down Steam and restart it. Sometimes that helps too. Or restarting your computer too. The darndest things can screw up a game. Then again, it just may not like you. :)

As for a refund, lol, yeah, good luck with that. Steam doesn't give refunds.

Oh and one other thing, check that your hard drive isn't full. You can get that error if it's full too. If it is, delete an old game you're not interested in playing right now. If it's a Steam game, all the better. You can download it again any time you want since you want again since you own it but with it gone, it'll give you some room to play newer games.

Good luck.

thanks for reply BuzzardBee......... yeah I have "verified" and redownloaded the game (3 hours) 3 times........ "6 files failed to validate and will be reaquired"

the last time they were all accounted for......the game loads to the splash screeen for 8 seconds and I get a fatal error "disc read error"

my PC is a $2,000 Xbox...... haha..... nothing running in the background.. nothing overclocked.......everything updated.....just one of those things.

PS: 300GB of space left on HD

Is your game installed to Drive C? Things can sometimes get a little wonky if the game is installed elsewhere. Mine is on Drive D but I've heard it happen before. If all else fails, try submitting a ticket for the issue and see if Tech Support can help in any way.

thanks again for your help BuzzardBee....... I have not submitted a ticket because everything I'm reading is it will be a lost cause..........

I'd like to just get my $40 back..... as a Steam credit if nothing else......

I may send an email anyways

I'm pretty sure you won't get a refund. You might try trading the game to someone else though. Steam frowns upon giving anyone their money back. I've heard that on that rare occasion when a player made a real issue of it and they did get a refund, Steam promptly shut down their account. Seems they're sore losers and would rather kick a player permanently rather than admit there's a serious problem.

If you really don't want the game any more, consider trading it for another game that you might actually be able to play. I've never traded a game myself but I'm sure you can find more info on it here somewhere.

do you have it?
BuzzardBee May 7, 2014 @ 6:49pm
Me? Obviously. See the little mouse icon next to my name (and yours too, by the way). It says "has Call of Duty: Ghosts - Multiplayer". Just hover your mouse over the icon.

No problem. Oh and I did a little preliminary digging. Seems you can only trade games you haven't played, like if someone gifted you the game but you already had it or never wanted it, that sort of thing.

Not sure what other recourse you'd have with a game that you've tried but either cannot play or don't want any more. You can try asking them yourself.

Best of luck to you.
