Also, you might want to shut down Steam and restart it. Sometimes that helps too. Or restarting your computer too. The darndest things can screw up a game. Then again, it just may not like you. :)
As for a refund, lol, yeah, good luck with that. Steam doesn't give refunds.

the last time they were all accounted for......the game loads to the splash screeen for 8 seconds and I get a fatal error "disc read error"
my PC is a $2,000 Xbox...... haha..... nothing running in the background.. nothing overclocked.......everything updated.....just one of those things.
PS: 300GB of space left on HD
I'd like to just get my $40 back..... as a Steam credit if nothing else......

If you really don't want the game any more, consider trading it for another game that you might actually be able to play. I've never traded a game myself but I'm sure you can find more info on it here somewhere.
Not sure what other recourse you'd have with a game that you've tried but either cannot play or don't want any more. You can try asking them yourself.
