Can 'extinction' be completed solo?

As the title says. I was strongly considering getting this game for the Alien's mode but heard some concerning things about the mode itself. Firstly; Can you play Extinction start to finish entirely solo? Secondly; How possible is it solo? Lastly; Is playing solo (in your opinion) any fun? Would really appreciate the advice from some people who are dedicated to the game.

The mode is definitely designed for multiplayer, similar to CoD Zombies or Left 4 Dead, but the game will let you play the whole mode solo if you like, and even has (had? Seems some people can't access them lately) leaderboards for solo scores. Like those games, the game would be much more fun in a team of friends, but it can still be fun solo. As for the difficulty, there are three levels to choose from. If you're playing solo (there are no AI teammates), the easiest difficulty isn't overwhelming, and you can choose to increase the difficulty if it seems too easy.
