[GUIDE] Lowering Matchmaking max ping
Here's how to avoid getting into laggy matches. Apparently the devs think a ping of 800 is acceptable. I just got matched into a 1 vs 1 SqVSq game from Sweden into Australia. Anyone can fix the lag by themselves.

Open up the folder ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Ghosts\players2\ folder and open the MP configuration file. Find the line that configures your maximum matchmaking ping and change it.
seta cl_maxPing "800"
Default is 800 ms ping, I changed it to 200 ms. Don't be afraid anymore that you will be matched against some host in Australia if you live in Europe! Keep in mind, this is your ping, not your latency. A latency of 50 ms would equal a ping of 100 ms.
A good rule is 100 ms = within your continental region.

Since there is no way to see your actual ping in-game, this is our only control over our ping to the hosting server. So set it to your maximum preference.

NOTE: You shouldn't really edit a lot of settings in this file until more official documentation comes out from IW.

Agreed, they love to ban people for fixing their lazy releases.

It happens most likely when the host crashes.

We need those dedicated servers available for download now :(

I would do it..but I really don't plan on playing the game again. I've beaten singleplayer, squads is crap, extinction is lame without 3 friends and they flat out lied about multiplayer. I will not support a game full of false advertising

I set mine to 60 almost right away, so much better.

Can anyone confirm that this has worked for them? Will this only work with NAT Type Open?

I have been struggling with Lag Compensation with Ghosts. I think my router has me locked in to NAT Type Moderate - I tried every tutorial from MW3 and BO2 to get my NAT Type to Open but nothing worked. I'm hoping that this can work, I have super faster internet, so there is no reason I should be experiencing this.

Currently I have resorted to adjusting my QoS settings on my router to deprioritize port 3074 (the port COD rungs on) to create latency for me so that I can benefit from Lag Compensation, I haven't played enough with this change yet to know for sure, but the first game I played seemed to be better. But I really don't want to have to do this in order to make the Multiplayer playable.
Probably placebo.

you forgot to tell people to write protect the config_mp.cfg file after editing it to prevent steam from correcting the edits

and messing with files can casuse problems of thier own be warned you donot know what is and what is not cheat protected and you wont know if you have been banned for a few weeks this is the way VAC works.

Ghosts isn't using VAC so we really can't say what will get you banned unfortunately

DonkyBoY, will this change still help me even if I am on NAT Type Moderate?

it will only fix the where the game looks for matches you will find matchs with lower pings

it will not stop others with high pings finding you unless they edit thers aswell.

your NAT type makes no differance to this setting what so ever.

If you would like to fix your NAT type you will need to forward ports in your router or enable uPnP (one or the other not both) i sugest looking on portforward.com
http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Call_of_Duty_4/
yes that is for COD4 but it has been the same for each incarnation of the game

I made all the port forwarding changes last night and it didn't get my NAT Type to Open. I think I am stuck with Moderate because of my router/cable modem.
