I believe that term originated from little kids playing consoles.
You can blame halo for that more than CoD.
I prefer BF4 over CoD (although the last CoD game I owned was BO) but I really hate this reasoning. BF is about as realistic to military combat as Kirby's Dreamland. Both CoD and BF are extreamly arcade-y and arguing which one is more realistic (and thus more "fun") is arguing opinion.
More realistic != more fun.
"More" realistic is key, Arma is the king of realism to the point of sheer boredom. In B4 there is just more stuff to do via jets, choppers, armor and so on. The Zombies in BO were an absolute blast and the new alien mode this time around was fun. It would be nice to have more than one map.
Plus from a player standpoint the culture of B4 is different. You do have the occasional jet hog who will immediately plow the vehicle into the side of a mountain but for the most part you are dealing with an older crowd (college up). In COD its jam packed with mouthy twelve year olds.
That's exactly my point. I see many people argue that more realistic is more fun believing that games like BF and CoD are super realistic. Ultimately, I feel that modern military shooters like CoD and BF have more in common to Quake or Unreal than ARMA or Red Orchestra due to reliance to twitch aiming and quick mobility.
But that’s just my opinion.
BF4 stop "realistic" since it has health regenerate and now it go to the point even vehicle can regenerate its health too. more and more arcade in every game. gun mechanic in the game also arcade like COD. recoil may look different but when compare with the real recoil in simulation game base like ARMA or even games made by Tripwire Studio. BF4 is just like Quake.
and finally, even BF has bullet drop system. in the end it is just a bullet drop for arcade mode. play any game with real sniper experience will see the huge different.
so...in the end when come to realistic both COD and BF is just on the same boat. it is just what you like the most.
Far from it, its more tactical, and requires more knowledge and finess to be able to learn the game wholy but its equally unrelistic.
BF4 is a demanding game, that can be understood to run badly atm, Ghosts, not so much that's a result of poor effort done by IW
