Using a Gamestop PC Gamepad with Ghosts
Hello
I've just recently bought myself a Gamestop PC Controller (yes, a controller built for computers, not ps3 or 360). I installed it with success and everything was jolly good untill i was going to use it with my copy of COD Ghosts:
I checked off "gamepad" in the controller section in the game menu, but the game simply doesn't recognise my controller.
After some googling i came over this helpful topic https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6292-PQMG-6828
My problem is that i'm stupid when it comes to messing around with files. I dont want to do anything that can't be undone. I don't even KNOW how i can add a "joystick.cng". When i open my local files for COD Ghosts it has a folder called "players2" and in there i can find "config.cng" and "keys.cng". First of all; i dont have any program that i can change cng-files, all i can do is read them in Word, so how would i be able to change anything? Secondly, if i do manage to change the files, which one of the two mentioned above should i change? In config.cng there's a lot of gamerelated stuff, while in keys.cng - well, that's only the default mapping of the buttons (keyboard and mouse, that is).

To sum it all up: I need help to figure out how i can use my PC controller with COD Ghosts. Downloading any external drivers should be unecessary, as the controller came with one and is functioning properly. I just need to know how i can get my COD Ghosts to recognise my PC Controller.

Eh, you're going to have to play with config files and/or drivers. The Xbox 360 for Windows gamepad is the only one that actually works out of the box.

Well i just tried it out with Star Wars Battlefront 2, and it recognised my controller without any fuzz. It even let me map the buttons inside the game. So what's the problem with COD Ghosts? SWB2 is from 2005, this game was released last month - it can't be that hard to implement 8 years old technology in a new game...

If i first have to play around with config.cng, can someone help me with that?

First of all why would you want to use a controller , you will be smoked by poeple with a Keyboard and mouse, second when i accidently leave my controller on it asks me if i want to use it when i start the game.

make sure you have drivers for your controller not the defualt windows ones

I'm a console gamer, just dont have a TV right now. Playing with a controller is more natural to me.
The controller (this one http://www.gamestop.no/productImages/233975/3max.jpg) came with an own driver, which works fine. The controller works with SWB2 on PC (which is also powered by Steam). It's just COD Ghosts that wont register it!

Try the below quote from another thread and perhaps it will get it working for you. I play with my wired xbox controller so it's natively supported but this software should make the game think your gamepad is the x360 controller.

Try this xbox 360 controller emulator:
http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list

Download the zip file x360ce.App-2.1.2.191.zip, then unpack x360ce.exe into the steamapps directory where COD: Ghosts is installed.
Make sure your controller is connected to your computer.
Run the x360ce.exe program, and answer yes to the prompts to create x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll.

You should then get another dialog saying "new device detected" with the name of your controller. Make sure "search automatically for settings" is selected, and "search the internet" as well. Click next. It should find the correct settings for your controller and fill in the picture with the correct button ids.

You can test it at this time, the controller in the picture should respond as you press the buttons on your controller. If everything is correct, click Save and then exit the program.

Start up the game and it should recognize your controller.

What an unfortunate choice for your intro to PC games.
