probably.
should you do it?
no.
I have no vested interest in plugging that product, but I've been gaming since 1978 and working with computers since 1984, before the internet was born. Their software doesn't interfere with my games, and never identifies a legitimate game file as a threat. You are using the wrong protection if you're worried about getting hacked while gaming.
If you're unfamiliar, that was the community project that removed all the known exploits and vulnerabilities, as well as added support for things like server browser and mods. But they had links to piracy on their website, which is why they were taken down.
Around twenty years ago, before I got smart, I'd downloaded a few games that I shouldn't have, and my machine got infected, once so badly that it bricked my machine. I stopped because of that, plus the longer I kept doing it, the more likely a felony conviction became possible. I personally knew a guy who got twenty years for pirating and selling applications, videos, games, and music. He was selling copyrighted material on a scale that still boggles my mind. Idiot.
Spend the money to buy legitimately. It's worth it.
