Why are all the lifeforms in Gotham thugs?
I am seriously disappointed by this. When they announced the game and said that we finally go out there in Gotham itself I hoped to see some civilians. We are no longer in Arkham Asylum nor in Arkham City (well, we are in an area that will be Arkham City, but not just yet) and all I see are thugs swarming the streets. Why? It's not a prison, and please don't say things like "If you lived in Gotham would you go outside?". I'm serious. Why, just why? I'd love to see streets filled with civilains, families walking around etc, their reactions to a freak in a bat costume could be all kinds of suprising! People might run off in terror, attack you, look at you the creepy way and a lot more. The random crimes in the game aren't all that fancy either. Either people fighting or thugs bullying a random cop. With civilians in the streets, shops and all that look at the possibilities. We could save a woman from getting her purse snatched, we could stop a car thief, we could put an end to a robbery, hell, why not stop a bank robbery? I gotta say I expected more from Origins, it's still a fun game, I'm having a blast playing it (finished Arkham City 4 times) but I'm disappointed at the same time. It's more of a mission DLC for Arkham City than a new game. Just wanted to say what bugs me about the game. Cheers.

Well it's Christmas Eve night/early Christmas so most people are at home.

zzzzzzz
LOL..................all i can say
You make a good point. Some normal civilians would add an interesting dimension to the story.
I was hoping for actual civilians too. This kind of just feels like 2 Arkham Cities connected with a bridge. It's not really a deal breaker, but it is kind of a dropped ball IMHO.
i do understand and agree im just LOL cuz you make a good point its no wonder that it took that long for someone to point it out lol
a explanation for there being no civilians is that its christmas eve and theres a massive storm hitting gotham. As for there only being thugs around, there was just a breakout at the prison and they have no place to go other than the steets. it be nice to play a game were there was civilians around but at least they explained why there isnt in the game.
It's Christmas Eve, during a snow storm, and after a prison break, and you want civilians walking the streets at night with all of this going on? OK......That wouldn't even happen in real life.
and you can hear while you're going about the city that there's a curfew in effect
Yeah I guess you guys are right about the weather conditions, breakout and christmas eve... still it looks like WB Montreal was too lazy and came up with this stuff, but that's just me.
storm, late at night, christmas, curfew, prison break, no people in shopping mall or industrial district at night either, bridge closed....so yeah, not many reasons for civilians to run around. though i have to admit, i´d really love a batman game like assassins creed with tons of civilians, day/night ciycle etc. keep the gameplay just add some ppl and more "real life stuff".

Really? Must have missed that, it seems like the most legit reason for no civillians on the streets.
In the mission where you have to infiltrate the police station you can hear an announcement outside where they say all citizens are REQUIRED to stay indoors because of the snow storm.
I also thought about this. Indeed, there are certainly reasons for people not to be around (Christmas Eve, the prison breakout, the storm) but I also kinda wanted to see actual civilians there.

Yes, there are signs of civillians - the abandoned cars on the bridge, the shops, left gifts on the streets, etc. Perhaps if there were *some* civillians, e.g. being lost and endangered by thugs so Batman had to save them would have been nice. Or for instance, the game could have started with many civillians, which gradually disappear as the night progresses. Anyway :) Still an awesome game.
