Ideal playing order: Asylum -> Origins -> City ?
This is a question about playing order, not a statement of quality.

I'm a veteran of Asylum but have yet to play City. I was thinking of slipping Origins into the middle to sort of construct my own trilogy experience for two reasons:

1) It seems likely that City is a better game than Origins, and so it will be a more satisfying final game to play.

2) Origins, as I understand it, sets up the general story of the Arkham games' continuity, while City finishes it. I think that the prequel would feel good played in between Asylum and City; I think it will seem like an extended flashback, you know?

Please tell me whether or not you think this is a good idea. I am concerned that Origins, being developed later, contains either story or gameplay content that would make City a prerequisite to it, even if only in some small way.

I look forward to your opinions. Thanks for taking the time!

Play them in release order for story and gameplay reasons. I can only assume events in City(even though it takes place later) will have some connection/mention in Origins. And playing Origins first would introduce you to new mechanics and probably added features in gameplay and combat that you'd miss when you "downgrade" back to City.

Yes, the best way is like ZF911 says. but chronologically correct would be:
Origins>*>Asylum>City.
having in count that we are now in Blackgate prison, that is named so many times in the Arkham Asylum and City
* (i suppose that there will be an new title)

i dont agree. the arkham asylum and city plot is very years later.

and AO season pass tell us about the Bruce Wayne Trainning to begin Batman ( like Batman Begins ) in they special challenger maps and campaing, one of then looks like Ras al Ghul Temple.

well, Kevin Conroy (batman's voice) said on Comic Con the arkham 3 is in work in progress and is very huge.

based on youtube videos, AC is more large, have the best graphics and history than AO. ( my opinion ).

I think WB have delay the launch, work in some improvements and then, release to sell.

Compared with "day one" on Batman AC, this game have much bugs and errors. ( base on comentary in this comunity ). we need wait until the first or second update to fixes these bugs.

I like your first statement being about playing order, not quality. But then your first point is about you suspecting City is a better game...

Anyway, I'd suggest playing them in chronological order. I would if given the option, yet I played them each as they released. I think the experience would be just as enjoyable, if not more so!

My intention was to clarify the thread title and state clearly that the arrows weren't there to make a statement about game quality. However, it is only natural that the quality of the individual games should be a factor in making this decision, especially since I like to save the best for last. There does seem to be a pretty stable consensus regarding the relative quality of City and Origins; that's not what this thread is about, but it is a useful consideration.

Do you mean Our world or Arkham world chronology? :)

It's just Batman, the franchise is famous for having absolutely no chronological order whatsoever.

You guys do realize that Origins doesn't take place in the same universe, right? It's not a prequel. The story between Origins and Asylum/City is not connected at all.

Think of Origins as the "Black Ops" to "Modern Warfare". It's WB's way of releasing a game annually without sacrificing the two year development cycle. Much like COD does with Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Origins and Asylum/City are separate yet very similar experiences.

The problem with playing them not in order of release is it will bother you when you are missing something. Arkham Asylum for example is VERY constrictive compared to the other two. You are always in rooms, whereas the other two have a lot of free roam and zooming around.

You're wrong, it's intended as a prequel. It's a crappy prequel that makes no sense, with the younger and less experienced Batman inexplicapbly using more advanced equipment and greater fighting technique than in the first game that supposedly takes place after it, but a prequel it is. Really, there's no particular reason this game couldn't have been set after Arkham City except that they wanted Joker to be in it for some reason. Joker is so tired and played out, how about giving some other Batman villains a chance, WB?
