Batman doesn't know Joker?
The story doesn't any make sense! In previous Arkhams batman already dealt with Joker - this is obviously before Arkham 1 & 2. By the technology and everything - these events look to be taking place very recently, maybe 5-10 years tops before our day. So even if it's as far back as 1990's - how can Batman not know who the Joker is in the 1990s??
is this yet another re-imagining of the Batman universe mythology? How many Batman mythologies should we keep track of?

He doesn't understand the Arkham series is it's own universe. Igor, this is set within the first few years he was Batman, it's in it's own universe, it doesn't follow comics, cinematic or animation universes, so the timeline is different. It makes complete sense.

There is only one Arkham Universe, and in that universe Batman didn't meet Joker until his second year as Batman, as we're seeing in this game.

Hell, even the comics don't follow themselves half the time. DC recently rebooted the whole thing and they STILL seem to be having a hard time figuring out what happened when.

They seem to cherry pick bits and pieces of the continuity that they please, which I have no problem with.

In Arkham Asylum, it is implied that the Knightfall story preceded it with Bane's reference to breaking the bat. However in Arkham City, Batman had never met Azrael or heard of the Order of St Dumas.

There's also a big flashback in Arkham Origins taken from a very popular Batman graphic novel, the aftermatch of which is also heavily referenced in Asylum and City.

WHile its in its own universe, it still has followed the most basic Batman story. He starts off going after the major gangs like the Falcones and Black Mask. Then the super villans start popping up. Hell it even uses one of the more common Joker mythos out there.

I don't know if Knightfall actually happened as the Bios in AA were just to kind of give an idea of the characters to people who didn't already know about it.

I think Knightfall wont happen until after Arkham City or they might decide not to do it at all.

I actually don't know what Knightfall is all about. Could someone fill me in on that? A link would really help too if any of you could post one :)

Knightfall is the story arc which introduced Bane. It's when Bane broke Batman's back and Azrael took over as Batman for a while.

Knightfall was the original introduction of Bane in the comics to a well-established Batman (during the time of Tim Drake, the third Robin). Bane deduces Batman's identity, confronts him in the Batcave and breaks his back. During Bruce Wayne's rehabilitation, Jean Paul Valley (Azrael) takes the mantle of the Bat.

Knightfall wasn't just referenced in the bios of Arkham Asylum. Bane says to Batman "I will break you, Batman!", to which he replies "No Bane. This time, I break you".

(OK, so maybe it isn't explicitly the same story arc that's reference but we can take it that Bane at some point "breaks the Bat")

Oh I forgot Azrael took over. That would be an interesting game to play as a different main Batman for a game or two. From what I read of Azrael the guy reminds me of Vincent from FF VII in a way. Doesn't quite strike hero or villain.

notice how they games are not numbered and this one has origins in the title and that this has been known to be set before the other games for like a year?

as many as you'd like but I don't think you can manage.

I don't know anything about final fantasy, but you're pretty much right about Azrael. He usually intends a good result, but he's incredibly violent, mean, and arrogant. I consider him a villain, and he was definitely presented as a villain for much of Knightfall.

I'm assuming you aren't much of a Final Fantasy fan then. Final Fantasy VII is the best game in the FF series. The story is amazingly done and the combat system is also done really well. It's on the Playstation but in its time it had really good graphics for the major cut scenes. There's a lot of twists to it as well. Vincent is one of the most popular characters because he's dark and mysterious like Azrael was in Arkham City. He looks and sounds very intimidating and his choice of weaponry is dual pistols but he's also a very good hand to hand combatant. If you wanna know about him look up Dirge of Cerberus or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

No, I was never really able to get into FF. I played one of them back in the day on SNES, but I didn't like it, even though I like other games in that style like Dragon Warrior, Earthbound, and Chrono Trigger.
