I love how WB has said they're aware of the flickering Croc issue and they're working on a fix...that's been since November 1st, I think.

I found what worked best for me was to force the game to not use DirectX 11, but start up in DX10/9. It hasn't completely fixed the problem, but it makes it a lot less annoying. He still flickers from time to time, and Restarting from Checkpoint seems to help...sometimes..when the fight starts and starts doing that, but not always. But at least it doesn't crash my game completely now. I put -d3d9 in the game's Launch Options in Steam Library (right-click, Properties). Now he just flickers occasionally. I recommend manually installing the DX files again, just to be sure, from the _CommonRedist folder under BAO..just double-click DXSetup.exe and let it refresh everything.
As for getting worse, that's a roll of the dice really. Some people experience "black void" saves or "infinite falling" saves, where the game auto-saves and become corrupted when Batman ends up "outside of the normal geometry" of the world. This has been linked to a corrupt bmengine.ini file and usually just deleting it fixes the non-solid buildings, but the game save is forever corrupted when that happens. One of the latest patches screwed that file up for a lot of people.
Then there's the pre-Copperhead fight elevator glitch that crops up for a lot of people. The game just decides to crash every time Batman exits the elevator in the Sionis Steel Mill after he's been bitten by Copperhead. That one's fun, and usually a game-stopper for a lot of people.
So, nothing really serious. ;-)
I recommend manually backing up your save game file(s) occasionally...well, ok, frequently, so you can revert to a previous save without too much hassle and lost time.
Right well I won't hold my breath for a solution to that then! As I said, I managed to beat Killer Croc but I think I will give the fix a go anyway - thanks! Is there any reason to use "-d3d9" rather than say "-d3d10"? I'm not too experienced with using Launch options so forgive my ignorance!
Right, good to know that I could at any moment randomly lose all my progress irreversibly! Whereabouts are the saved games located? I ask because for some games they appear in the Steamapps folder, other times in "My Documents" (of all places). I'm sure I'd be able to manually locate them but I'm at work at the mo so if you happen to know that'd be handy :)
Glad to know all the major kinks have been worked out after 3 months :P
Thanks for your help!
I've played it several times without any problems.
I can't remember also, but I think some versions of Unreal don't support the -d3d10 switch, but I think BAO does. Again, too lazy to check. :-P
That's why you'll see me say DX10/9, because the cards are smart enough to run in whichever mode it can with the one option switch.
From my experience, the issues start if Killer Croc contacts the North Wall. In subsequent playthroughs I make sure that I'm always forcing him South East (Western wall is iffy). The only bug that I can't seem to get around is one that is less game-breaking; whenever I get to the first button mash sequence where Croc is trying to bite into the Bat, the game does not register. I tried several times pushing faster than I ever have and still got nothing. To make sure I wasn't just finding an excuse for sucking, I watched the sequence while I mashed, and while I put in no inputs at all. Lo and behold, they are exactly the same. I know it's not quite a big deal to take some damage, but it would be nice to make it through the fight with no dings in my armour.
