X-Box 360 Controller suddenly not working
I've been using my 360 wired controller on all of my Steam games ever since I got Steam. two games, Arkham Origins and Bioshock Infinite suddenly no longer accept input from the controller. They DO recognize that it's plugged in as the on-screen prompts are in the form of controller buttons (Pres Start> to begin instead of press any key) and so forth. But nothing happens when I press any buttons. It's like it's not plugged in. But Windows (8.1) does recognize the controller, I can calibrate it and check it's working, and all my other steam games like Portal and LA Noir accept the controller perfectly. It's just these 2 games that detect it but don't accept input.

I've tried deleting the controller from Device Manager and letting Windows re-detect, getting the 360 Accessories tool from the MS website, deleting and re-installing the games on my PC through Steam. Nothing works.

Am I missing something? Did some update break the controller support in the game? Did some file get corrupt? Is this unfixable?

I have this problem now... Used to work, a few months back, but not anymore. All other games work (Trials Fusion, Middle Earth: SoM, Abe New 'n' Tasty).
Tried:

1. Turning off the Windows Firewall
2. Reinstalling the game
3. Uninstalling the x360 accessories driver and re-installing
4. Plugging the wireless receiver into different USB ports, inside and outside the game
5. Re-pairing the controller and receiver inside and outside the game
6. Unplugging all other gaming devices before starting the game
7. Unplugging my mouse & keyboard after launching the game
8. Disabling the drivers from other gaming devices
9. Closing all non-Windows icons from the system tray

Any other suggestions apart from Windows 7 reinstall?

This just happened to me on Windows 7, was working fine for 14 hours of gameplay and now it isn't doing anything in the game but is perfectly fine for other games.

So, I found out somewhere else that if you have other XInput devices connected to your PC, then the game won't pick up the Xbox 360 controller.
The reason mine didn't work all of a sudden (it didn't work in Arkham Knight either), was because of my new mouse, which has a Virtual XInput device driver for the throttle stick, which I could see in the Device Manager, under Human Interface Devices.

As soon as I disabled this device, the X360 controller started working again.

I discovered the same trick earlier after lots of googling. I had installed a Roccat Tyon since I had last played Batman:AO and that had installed a Virtual XInput driver.

Apparently this problem also happens with Bioshock Infinite.

That is the exact mouse I bought too. Glad it's been figured out.
