The game is unplayable for me. Before even getting to the first boss I've had:
- Batman suddenly stop responding during a fight.
-Getting launched through walls and falling off the level into infinity.
-Sound cutting out.
-Sound desyncing.
-Video chopping, going black, going into slow motion.
-All cut scenes have the pixelation of a Piet Mondrian painting.
-Game crashing after large black squares appear in game.
The only thing worse than the game is Steam's complete lack of customer service regarding the game. If you sell something and its broken you should be willing to at least refund for store credit; not give the customer the run around.
Yes, Batman ceasing to fight and just standing there not responding to clicks and button pushes is an intended feature because he's novice Batman. My novice Batman also has the special ability of clipping through walls and falling into the void of infinity. Take that collector's edition!!!
1. Did they even test the game's story mode? It's like they logged in and said "Gee the graphics are nice. The game is working great!" - Whoever signed off on this game as "ready to release" should be fired because their idea of "ready for release" is beta stages of development. The amount of updates and patches that followed this games release was pathetic excuse for a Batman game that has hundreds of fans focusing on it and expecting another great Arkham Game only to be let down by this crap.
2. "Batman is younger so, he's inexperienced" - This is a load of bull. Essentially it is an excuse for the programmers to allow thugs to SKIP across 20 feet to smack you in the back. It's an excuse for thugs to spam attack, interrupt, and for Batman to disregard any logical process of priority. Arkham City and Arkham Asylum Batman would, for the most part, takedown whoever you aimed for him to attack and perform a takedown. Arkham Origins, Batman gives no response to who you want to focus. 70-80% of the time he will target who you want. But when it comes to choosing "Disarm the thug with a gun or disarm a thug with a baseball bat....I'll choose the Baseball bat because that's CLEARLY more threatening than a gun." Arkham City, this was a no go. 90% of the time, Batman would prioritize people with a gun over anyone with anything else. So this whole excuse "Batman is inexperienced" is bull crap and it's an easy ticket for developers to be sloppy. There are games from 1996-2005 that handle with better response time and precision than Arkham Origins. Additionally...Batman DELAYING on response is not inexperience...If you want to show inexperience you have him get knocked back, knocked down, or heavily injured to express inexperience. Having him pause and "herpa-derp" is not inexperience, it's bad programming. The developers have stated that Batman's "Slow pace combat" is due to his inexperience. NOT his paused reaction, which occurs in combat. Slow pace combat refers to his attack speed, not response time.
3. Bane's shockwave mechanic....Are we supposed to jump before or after he hits the ground? If you have an answer I would love to know...I jump before I get knocked out. I jump after and its a 50/50. From what I can tell he's supposed to hit you with the shockwave regardless. But what do I know?
4. Deathstroke's fight wasn't the hardest fight in the entire game. Let alone the fact there was only 1 encounter against him instead of 2 or 3 even. Out of that line up of assassins, Deathstroke is the only one who has consistently beaten Batman and Batman keeps coming back for more. Deathstroke can stand toe-to-toe against Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Flash, Hawkman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, or Nightwing.
************ Multiplayer (Get ready for this list) ****************
5. Only 2 factions: Bane and Joker (Where's Penguin? Where's Two-Face? Where's BLACK MASK!?!?!?!?) They completely ignored there being other gangs in Gotham and just focused on two of them. It's a waste of time and effort putting only 2 gangs into it.
6. Gangster / Thug gameplay: Terrible. Why can't I crouch whenever I want to? Single player Batman can crouch whenever he wants to...why can't the thugs crouch again? Why is it that when thugs run forward they become completely tunnel vision? They can't do anything except run forward like a lemming charging to its death...Furthermore why is there a delay in choosing to run or to stop running? Why can't we switch the shoulder camera? It's locked in one singular position and we can't change it at our own will. Additionally....Why is it a shoulder camera? Absolutely a terrible idea, players don't like shoulder camera's. We want Third person (Gee, like Single player for Arkham Asylum and Arkham City...there was no stupid Shoulder camera in those games.)
Solution (Here, I am GIVING you one): If you make the thugs desirable to play, people will naturally pick them over the heroes. By making the characters clunky, they aren't fun at all to play and make a steep learning curve that hurts the desire to play the game.
7. Batman and Robin: Random pick only, why can't we premature choose to play them? (Oh right, the gangster gameplay is terrible) Additionally....Arkham Asylum had Batman and the Joker for play. Arkham City had Batman, Red Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman for gameplay. Why aren't ANY of them (except Batman) in this Multiplayer mode? Why am I stuck with only Batman OR Robin? Especially when you have DEATHSTROKE in this game.
Did it not occur to anyone "Maybe players would like to team up...Batman and Deathstroke" (It's happened before) or MAYBE..."Players would like to team up Batman and Catwoman" - Oh look, we're opening a player base for women to play our video game...Oops, using too much logic here.
Solution:
Three way fight...2 Gangs (Black Mask, Joker, Bane, Penguin, Two-Face, League of Assassins, Red Hoods, Police) vs Heroes (Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, Deathstroke, Lady Shiva, Batgirl, Azrael, a 2nd Batman even.) <-- All of them make TOO much sense. Someone seriously dropped the ball here.
8. Batman and Robin: Why don't they handle exactly like Single player? There's no excuse, if you are able to silent take down a player; then it should silently take them down. Why are their controls different from Single player? I don't know, the only reason I can think of is that the developers didn't have anything constructive to do so they decided to tweak something that didn't need tweaking.
9. Real Life money: why does it have ANY impact on gameplay content? It shouldn't. I can buy grenades, specialized weapons, specialized equipment, EXP bonuses using my credit card. While you jerks are looking at dollar signs, we players are looking at a lack of quality in the game because it immediately removes skill as its focus and it emphasizes "Who has the best gadgets and the money to buy them."
************ Continuing back to Bugs / glitches / bad programming ****************
10. Propane tank hits 3-5 people, only knocks 1 out. What sense this makes? I don't know.
11. Riddler Challenges: Day of release and for the first week, the radio tower in the bowery was glitched and you couldn't climb up the ventilation shaft. (Again, whoever signed off on the game would be fired in my company.)
12. Joker's fun house, the balloon pop "Simon Says" was glitched and regardless of which target you shot with the Batclaw it popped all of the balloons and caused you to fail.
13. Why can't we use newly obtained gadgets in New Game plus again? What's the purpose of new game plus if we don't get the bonus equipment and stats we earned from the first play through??? (Again, someone wasn't thinking clearly here.)
14. Knife Takedown...It says a lot that you had to release a DLC JUST to teach players how to do it. You didn't define how to do it well enough and you didn't afford proper steps to teach it. I didn't know how to do it until I watched a youtube video of another player attempting it. Most players I've talked to don't even know how it's done nor do they care because it's "too difficult and doesn't work"
15. Counter...Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...Are you going to blame this on the fact Batman is inexperienced or do I have to point out the flaw in that argument again? - It's an excuse for sloppy programming.
16. Grapnel accelerator...Why doesn't it apply momentum? Batman gets accelerated forward at 20 miles per hour and suddenly loses all of that steam and glides at a crawl. - Is it because he's inexperienced? Somehow that inexperience affects the laws of physics?
17. Counter interrupt...Now Arkham City was notorious for having thugs interrupt you while counter attacking, it was rare, but it stood out like a sore thumb whenever it happened. Arkham Origins, you can't catch your breath as the thugs spam attack you one after another and the bigger thugs strike you while dismissing whatever takedown or counter you're performing. While this issue isn't as big as the others...it COMPOUNDS the others into making them a bigger issue. 1 flaw with counter is fine. 3-5 different problems is unacceptable (again, someone should be fired for these types of mistakes being released in the game.)
18 Crimes in progress...There's no consistency as to when they appear or how to trigger them (That I've found.) Now my fellow players may be wondering "Dude, we don't want to have things handed to us, what are you on about?" Nay nay. If there is an ACHIEVEMENT that REQUIRES us to stop a crime in progress within every district (The bridge included) then there needs to be a system that is established that DOES NOT CHANGE as you progress through the game.
19. My philosophy...If you have to glitch / cheat to compensate for the game's glitches or flaws then it's a poorly designed game. I shouldn't have to cheat, exploit, or glitch the game to win. I should be able to honestly play and honestly EARN my achievement. But no, Arkham Origin makes me feel like I have to cheat and screw over the game because the game will screw me over every chance it gets. This goes into my final point for now...
20. I am the Night...While I would LOVE to do this achievement (I am that die hard of a Batman fan) I am afraid to because the Camera angling is terrible while in close quarters (Many maps of this problem) thugs teleport, slide, and strike EVEN THOUGH they are no where near you to hit you. The combat system is too glitchy and non-responsive to player commands. Therefore this game mode is a waste to me, it's not worth my team or effort. I'll give it a shot, but considering the developers of this game realize how much of a failure it is, they won't fix its issues.
Closing Remarks...
To those of you who say "I don't know what you're talking about, I don't have these problems." ...You're full of crap. You clearly don't pay attention to the gameplay, you clearly aren't playing the same game that me and hundreds of other players are playing and you're confined to your own little world of delusions. I played this game the day it came out and I played it all the way through until this post here. I'm on my 6th play through on hard mode and can tell you it still has the SAME glitches from day one. There are plenty that are fixed, I'll concede that point. But there is still A LOT of work that needs to be done before this game is even considered to compete for Game of the Year or to hold a candle next to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
Killer Croc was 'flashing' violently, sometimes even disappearing for two whole seconds making it hard to locate him in the battle. I also encountered the problem that the screen turns black, but all I got was the text explaining how to move, so that made the fight pretty impossible. After dying at the black screen, I get thrown back to the cutscene, lose all sound, and don't regain it until having defeated Killer Croc. I thought the game would be fine after that, but now the game won't allow me to exit the Batcave to go after the Penguin - and honestly at this point I ragequit. I'm hoping it will work the next time I try to play it...
If I didn't get this game on a sale I would be angry right now.
Not to mention the Single Player.
Overblown is funny-
let me ask you some simple questions - have you played the game on different Pcs?
I guess no
Have you played it on consoles? I know a lot of people who bought the game for 60 bugs and cant play it on xbox or PS3. Savegame issues are just one problem with the console versions.
I have a friend whos ps3 version just freeze and he had to reset it. There are not just some
bugs in the game there are allot of and no im not a guy who normaly criticise a Company for its fails- in this case its another thing.
I dont like WB Montreal because they made so much bugs in this game- well somehow i dont understand it how a unfinished Game could ever get to sell.
But fatal is that WB Montreal is not able to fix the problems, no they just say fxxxck you consumer we do a DLC there is no Future for new updates and thats a punch in the face of all those who have these sort of Problems- and there a many people out there who got not just graphic problems- I was fxkng stupit to preorder this broken game it is and pay 60 €-
when in the end there is no support at all and over the top WB Montreal deny that there are still bugs in the game.
I know there are some happy people who never have seen a bug, but this is rare, or they are blind. What i can tell for my experience with the Game there are not so huge Glitch problems with new High End PCs but there are real big fail bugs with medium Hardware.
Thats from Release day 1.
If i could resell this Game i would do that emidiatly but i cant do that because Steam doesnt let me.
And after my contact with the support of WB Montreal and after now 4 weaks
the closed my case.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. The only things I've run into are very minor bugs where the worst thing I'd have to do is maybe restart at the most recent checkpoint and whatever the issue was would go away. That's only happened once or twice in a handful of play-throughs.
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can --
* Only played the game on my main gaming rig. No reason to play it on any other system than my gaming rig.
* I have not played it on consoles, but have 2 buddies at work that have PS3s and they were able to play the game without issue as we constantly discussed the gameplay, boss fights, etc. as we all played through the game at the same time.
It's too bad Steam won't let you return the game for at least a partial refund if you are truly unable to play it at all. I thought it was a fantastic game, probably my favorite of all 3 of the Arkham games currently.
So? Lots of games get "game of the year" that don't really deserve it, while many that do, do not. It's a marketing gimmick, nothing more.
Reh? The gameplay is pretty much exactly the same as in AC.
1)the # of patches released doesn't mean anything.
2) There weren't all that many patches. If anything, people hoped for more.
That's not why people say that. The thugs are more aggressive, and in story that's the generally accepted reasoning for that. The excessive sliding is clearly due to engine trying to hard to compensate for positioning.
valid points but again, no one is claiming there is an in story rationale for that. The game engine will prioritize the closest over the "most threatening" or over the most directly aimed at.
ahahaha. no. Careful. Your angry derp is showing.
"delaying" ? Bunny with a pancake on it's head.
citation? I've played all 3 games extensively and I find the "pace" of combat between AC and AO to be primarily the same.
[quote\3. Bane's shockwave mechanic....Are we supposed to jump before or after he hits the ground? If you have an answer I would love to know...I jump before I get knocked out. Would you rather move out of the way before you get punched, or after?
You are either dodging too late, or way too soon.
Stop button mashing and it gets much easier.
Well, You don't, and I don't.
No, i'm not
Yes I do.
Of course I am.
Angry derp definitely showing now.
That'sa nice. So Have I. so why is my opinion any less valid?
you don't play a "broken" game this much.
Which is it? Are they all the same? or were many fixed? You can't have it both ways.
You really place far too much importance on the whole GOTY thing.
GOTY, Complete Edition, platinum edition, armored edition ,derp edition, etc etc blah blah. It's all marketing. That's it.
