Evidence Scanner Glitch
I've been fighting with an Evidence Scanner bug. When I do a Crime Scene Investigation, (Lacey Towers, Copperhead, etc), I'm able to scan in a few pieces of information, but when I get to a particular one (always a reconstruction hologram, but not necessarily the first), the reconstruction stops and I get bumped out to normal vision.

Now, when I try to re-enter Evidence Scanner mode, I get a bunch of static over audio and cannot scan any further. Detective Mode works, if I leave the area.

Troubleshooting history:

I usually jump out, run a Verify Integrity of Game Cache (which takes forever, of course) and let it download the two corrupted files (always 2). Some times, I run it a second time to confirm All Files Validated. This usually lets me proceed. For the jumper, it was successful the first time. For Lacey Towers, it took several repetitions before I could proceed.

Now I'm stuck on Copperhead, and I cannot proceed. I've tried 6-8 times so far. I've restarted my machine, steam, even deleted all files and redownloaded. No luck. I'm stuck and cannot proceed with the game because of this.

Is there a way to bypass Evidence Scanner Sections? This is my second playthrough, and I'm on the Plus mode this time around, so I don't really care to see all of them again. Or is there a permanent fix? Or a quick fix if it happens (faster than Verify)?

Also, FYI, I have searched extensively, and I've seen accounts of this for PC and for Console (both Xbox and PS). No one ever has a solution or follows through on their discussion.

Thanks!

FYI, If this happens, check your peripherals. This happens consistently with my USB Xbox 360 (3rd party) controller. It never happens with the mouse, and I haven't had a chance to try it with my wireless 360 controller.

I know I am here 8 yrs late, but whom it may concern, it is a game bug. If you are getting a lot of static during evidence scanning or reconstruction is because game is ghost pressing LT(backward) or RT (forward) on your evidence tape, that is why you keep exiting the detective mode or unable to move in between tape.
For evidence scanning, you can try to hold one of the LT or RT buttons and then press X(Strike) to scan the evidence. Even after this, issue persists, then get out of evidence range and try the same again
For reconstruction the crime scene, keep pressing the opposite button the game is pressing and try to move around and getting in out of evidence scanner zone. Don't let it go to the far end of the slider. I don't know what exactly might work in this case. But something along the lines of these things may work. You might need to restart from checkpoint to get this working
Edit: Can use turbo for LT button on controller for scene reconstruction

You are the best glitch helper I’ve ever found online. I was losing it and all did strike X and it worked. Take my points, and thank you!
