If I uninstall this game from Steam, will I lose my local save files?
I need to free up some space on my hard drive, so was thinking about uninstalling some Steam games, including this one. Now I've found (thanks to PC Gaming Wiki) that the save files for Arkham Origins are stored in my computer under Steam>userdata>user id number>209000, which is a separate location to where the game files are stored in Steam>steamapps>common.

If I "delete local content" for this game in Steam, will it also remove the save folder in userdata? Or does deleting local content only ever affect files in the steamapps folder?

(Side Question: What happens if you uninstall a game that keeps its save files in steamapps>common, e.g. Half-Life 2?)

Sorry for my basic ignorance, it's just that most games on Steam these days tend to create their own folders for save files in My Documents. I don't think I've ever uninstalled a game before where the save files were within Steam's folders itself.

Well, I am not 100% sure on this but I would think so. Now there is a way to backup a game if you want to. But it will take some space from you PC. But I would do some more web seaching before. By the way, go to the top left corner, click Steam and under that you'll see "Backup Games"

It seems that Arkham Origins use Steam Cloud, so the saves will be saved in the cloud and available wherever you log in with your account, maybe that's why the save files are stored there (I can't confirm it, since I don't really how know Steam Cloud works internally, but you shouldn't worry about BAO saves).

A lot of games also store the saves in one of the three folders in the hidden folder "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData", btw.

Yes, I'm aware that some do that. Obviously those save files are safe when you uninstall a game, you just have to remember to save a backup of them when you move to a new computer or something.

Turns out there are a couple of other games I'm thinking of uninstalling that also keep their save files in userdata, so I'm going to search around on the web and maybe ask on the main Steam Help forum to see what happens to them when I "delete local content". Will report back.

OK, so I uninstalled this game and one other after making copies of the folders they have in userdata. After the uninstall the original folders in userdata seem to have remained behind, so I guess save data is generally safe for games that put it in userdata.

Always best to be careful before you do any uninstalling though!
