Is it possible to uninstall dlc from a steam game?

I ask because I was gifted a game with dlc included. However, the dlc in question for some reason runs worse than the core game fps-wise. And takes up a fir bit if space. I see the dlc tab now has tick boxes next to each one, but does this just make the dlc unavaibale in the game, or can you actually uninstall it to save space?

Possibly a strange question, I know. But constructive replies only, please. Thanks in advance.

If you remove the check, the DLC gets removed and the game gets patched as if that DLC isn't there.

But is it just unavailable or actually uninstalled? Do you get the disk space back?

I didn't pay for it. It was gifted to me. My friend's cool with it. it takes up about 7 gigs of space. I only have a 240gb ssd. Space on those things doesn't come cheap lol

And it doesn't work (i uninstalled a free dlc for slime rancher and it's still there.)
