Who cares about the intricate considerations on what makes an autosave an autosave. To answer the damn question: No you can't adjust when the automatic saving occurs. This is a console based game.
Gone are the days where PC games can be saved manually and load manually from any given point
If the game stutters during a save, it's likely hard drive related as the game has to access it to make a save file. You can try one of two things
1. Get an SSD drive if you don't already have one. (I can confirm with a Samsung EVO 850 series 1 TB that the game autosaves smooth as butter for me without even a slight hitch)
2. Run a HDD defrag to consolidate sectors of your HDD. This organizes your HDD in a away that makes it more efficient in accessing and storing files. Just type Defrag under your Windows search bar. (Only do this if you are using a standard HDD)
