You don't have a choice if you want the unlock he was gunning for. Well, not a realistic choice, anyway; the vigilante mask means it's technically possible to beat floor 12 before even unlocking the correct alignment shop for this alignment specifically.
You don't build a single stat or stick to a single weapon.
If you get rolled because you didn't get any good weapons by 3rd boss, that's fair. Happens.
But "for a knight"? What does that even mean? Your base stats are a fraction of your total stats for the run. Nothing is concrete about your characters start.
I easily pivoted Knight to a caster when the opportunity showed itself. Despite Int being his worst stat.
And despite running a "caster" on other builds, I would gladly take armor on someone using a spell weapon, with mana, because armor protects my soul hearts and can be refilled with repair powder.
Like, why are you hard focusing on a role?
I managed to get past the gate of heaven first try thanks to the dryad and priest in the tavern, with some good equipment. You don't NEED good shops. They just help a lot.
Still strange how unlocking one of the shops doesn't unlock all the alignment shops, though. that would streamline the whole process. Right now unlocking the alignment shops feels a little grindy for no real reason except to extend playtime.
Buying from other alignment shops makes good shops less likely. Other things you can do include the bonfire bonus that reduces aligment requirements and cheaper tavern rerolls to find alignment npcs there too.
