"An Easter egg is a message, image, or feature hidden in software, a video game, a film, or another — usually electronic — medium".
Nothing I listed is hidden in any way.
As it is there is enough unique about this game that I'm perfectly happy to overlook integrating other works into their game, hopefully it is done with respect to the original developer, and if there's complaint from that developer then they'll change things, as it is I'm not sure it's our responsibility as consumers to request only original content and ideas from the games industry.
There are also rocks hiding secret packages, should Edmund McMillan be upset about that or Nintendo/legends of Zelda designers (though the Idea probably goes back before even then)
I'm not trying to smear mud on anyone, but there's a difference between 'homage' and 'plagiarism', and taking characters wholesale from other games is the latter.
It would just be nice if the dev used their own ideas for bosses and items.
You'll also note I did not list 'Souls' as 'taken from Dark Souls', as 'Souls' is pretty generic, and you don't level anywhere near the same as a Fromsoft game.
There's a difference between 'Game has secret passages' and 'Game has taken the characters of Ornstein & Smough/Death from Diablo 3/The Owl from Avatar'.
See, one is 'generic mechanic that in no way is owned by anyone' and one is 'The IP of another company'.
But really, what's wrong with a game using callbacks to other series and media? If it gets people interested, great. They're not ripping an entire game or show and putting it into their own product. And it's not wholly plagiarism, either. Or else things like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune wouldn't be allowed to have puzzles/questions based on other shows and such.
Duke Nukem 3D was oozing with them
I made it ten pages into section 2 and had to write it off as too bad to finish.
Further than I made it into the movie though, maybe because I knew the movie wouldn't be getting better.
