Easter eggs?
First...I want to say I really enjoyed this game. I don't leave too many reviews, but had to for Lazaret. Well done, devs! I loved the atmosphere and I think the way you utilized the statues (so they didn't all attack, every chance they get) was brilliant...the uncertainty of if a statue might attack or not made me even more hesitant to get too close, haha.

Anyhow....I saw a lot of similarities between this game and other horror games I've played in the past. So...just curious what games influenced you in the making of Lazaret?

For me, the chained door on D Deck (I think it was) reminded me of Silent Hill 4 (and Visage). The use of the flares reminded me of Cry of Fear (one of my absolute fave horror games). I know other games have used flares...but they always remind me of CoF. Going through the vents reminded me of Alien: Isolation. The spider-like things kind of reminded me of Dead Space, in a way (I guess 'cuz they are using a corpse).

there is also similarity with Monstrum, that game also takes places on a ship in the middle of the ocean (you can also find flares too).

We were influenced by so many games in the making of Lazaret I'm not sure I could even name them all. In fact, the game is an amalgamation of some of our past projects that didn't pan out on their own, but in turn were influenced by many games themselves.

Resident Evil has always been a major influence, specifically the way it uses some puzzles that don't feel like they really belong in the world. Honestly, every game mentioned in this thread apart from Cry of Fear (I've yet to play it myself) has had an influence on Lazaret in some way.

We don't have many direct references to other games, but the chained door from Silent Hill was one of them. There are two more that I can think of: The beginning section on the helicopter is a reference to a mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The other is the cog puzzle which is a reference to a little-known point-and-click horror game from the 90s called Shivers which is the game that initially got me interested in horror.

the cog puzzle was also in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (on PC and PS1) in the park/fountain section of the game :).
