Drone not using the gun that I equipped to it

As the title says, the gun that I equipped is not being used by the drone. Instead, it uses a starter pistol.

Am I missing something?

Yeah, the drone levels up the same way you did when you made that gun. So if you got your first upgrade at 30 seconds, your second at a minute, and your third at two minutes, the drone will do the same. You can see the progress your drone is making to levelling up based on the purple circle around the drone icon in the upper-left.

In other words, every drone will start off as just a starter weapon, then grow bigger and better just like you did. Relatedly, the faster you level up, the faster your drone will level up when using the resulting gun, so grabbing XP as frequently as possible instead of waiting for a green magnet orb to drop will make your drones more powerful earlier when using that gun!
