Double Dragon Advance

Dualshock 4 problems & game running at insane speed
My Dualshock 4's buttons are mapped completely bizarrely even after setting up the buttons for a custom layout. It seems they really screwed up this aspect of the game. Is this the finding of anyone else? To remedy the situation for now, I have the game fooled into thinking I'm using an XBOX controller by running "DS4Windows." I suggest this to anyone trying to play the game with a DS4 for now until when/if they fix this.

The game is running at an insane speed. Is there a setting I missed or is anyone else having this problem? I got it for Nintendo Switch also and it runs just fine on there. Way to screw up the Steam port of another Double Dragon game. Why is it that time & time again Retroarch is a better option than official releases? (With your own legally purchased and dumped rom)

I'm not sure about the issues with the Dualshock 4 controller as I use a 8bitDo SN30 Pro for mine and thus I don't have one (a DS4 Gamepad) to test it with.

Unfortunately, both this and Super Double Dragon have the same problem. I'm not sure what kind of setup you may be running with, but for me, it turned out to be an issue with high refresh rates (144HZ) in my case.

The following is a Copy and Paste of my response to another person in the Super Double Dragon forum that had the same issue......

I had that same problem.

Do you have a high refresh rate monitor (144HZ or greater)? What I had to do is go into Advanced Display Settings in Windows and set the default Refresh Rate to 60 for it to play at regular speed.

I think this game might benefit from a Vsync option.

I'm not sure what type of video card you got but if by chance, it's a Nvidia, you might try going into NVIDIA Control Panel, clicking 3D Management Setttings, creating a profile just for this game, and setting Vsync option to Adaptive (Half Refresh Rate). Not sure how it works on Radeon control panel though since I haven't had Radeon in several years.

I apologize if none of that helps. But, that fixed it for me.

Install RTSS and cap the framerate for the game.

That would've probably done it. I do in fact have a 144hz monitor and I'm on a Zotac Twin Edge OC 3060. It handles them GBA roms like a champ.

Yeah, the games will run as fast as your refresh rate. Have to manually cap them at 60 or they go nuts.

The burden shouldn't be on the player to externally find a way to force the game to run at 60hz; there should natively be an option in the game, but there is not. The devs really dropped the ball.

In my environment, I can use DUALSHOCK4 without any problems by enabling Steam input without using DS4Windows.
I was also able to assign buttons in the in-game controller menu without any problems.

I agree. Especially since alot of people out there are using high refresh rate monitors (beyond 60hz) these days. Hopefully, maybe they'll put out an update for this and Super Double Dragon which suffers from this same problem.

I ran into a similar issue a few years back with Wonder Boy Returns Remix whereby certain cloud platforms refused to appear if I ran the game above 60hz on a couple of stages resulting in a wide impassable gap.

I found a video that explains how to fix both problems here

As far as the Dualshock 4 goes, you have to "disable steam auto-controller config" and from that point on the game will acknowledge your DS4 as an XBOX controller. If you know the XBOX controller button scheme, you'll be fine. They really dropped the ball with the steam release of this game. Fortunately, there were no problems on PS4.
